New Format
Two months of the new semester are almost over, and overall I feel like it has been a success. I will be tweaking one thing. Students must sign up the day before the study hall. NOT THE DAY OF the Study Halls.
I need to know who is coming to the study hall. This way I can have enough staff to cover the class.
We Will Be Closed
March 10th - 16th Spring Break
March 31st For Easter
On Sunday, May 19th, at 5:00 pm we will be having a banquet instead of multiple recitals. Our students will be performing for us while we enjoy a meal together. Be on the lookout to buy your tickets in advance for the event. If you are not able to stay for the whole event do not come and do not ask me to put your child at the beginning so you can leave to go to another event.
Summer options for
Our Students
Just a reminder The school is a year-round school so we will have lessons in the summer. Every Summer here at the school, we always have students who want to discontinue lessons, need a break, or will be out of town to see parents or grandparents. While having a break or having a busy schedule for the summer are great things for students we cannot hold their spot for the next year unless tuition is continued. While some families choose to pay to hold their spot and not take lessons, here at the academy we have options so you can keep your spot and have a break during the summer.
One option that I have done for years is doubling up lessons. So a student can schedule 8 1/2 classes thought out the summer. Another option that is very popular is to schedule 4 1-hour classes throughout the summer. This has always been my favorite option for students who are old enough to handle 1-hour class and if we can spread the classes out the student gets a break but also retains their spot for fall.
For our third year, the Academy is offering some new and exciting alternative options. We will be doing summer camps. Summer camps will be a week-long 2 hr class and will be the best value for students who wish to hold their spot but need to be out of town. You may choose a summer camp and receive 10 hours of instruction for the price of 4. If you would like to take the camp and also take classes during the summer, the price for the week-long camp for current students will be $100. Students not enrolled in the school will have to pay $200.
Each Camp has 10 slots for Students.
Signups will start March and will continue until classes are sold out or

We Say Goodbye To One of Our Teachers.
It saddens me to say that Miss Abby has decided to leave the academy. Abigail worked for the Madison Music Academy from February 2023 until December 2023. During that time, she was an exemplary employee. Conscientious of the smallest detail. Our clients enjoyed her warm personality as well as her co-workers. We found her to be a valuable team member and will be missed.
Spring Semester
The Madison Music Academy has always been “The Great Experiment”. Since the inception of the Academy, we have tried to think outside of the box when it comes to traditional music lessons. Why? Because the system is broken. We are using antiquated methods to reach a
A new generation of children that do not have the same skill sets as children 100 or even 20 years ago.
Before the pandemic, the average student stayed at a music school for 6 months. Since the pandemic, those numbers are even lower. The main reason given by parents was and still is the lack of practice. Number two is that they have lost interest. Which is a direct result of having to progress so slowly in lessons because they have not practiced. The last factor/problem has been a lack of attendance. Families are busy and committing to one day of the week is problematic for many students. All of this has led me to do some soul-searching. Do I quit and find something else to do like so many of my teacher friends are doing in music and the elementary school arena? Or do I try to meet this new generation where they are and find a
workable solution? I have opted for option two.
In my research, I have noticed that three educational services that focus on children / Teens are still thriving. Dance Programs, Martial Arts Schools, and Organized Sports. All have similar traits. They offer group lessons/practices where students can thrive and create a community. For the most part, they learn and practice together and not at home. Since there is no conflict of practice at home, students and parents enjoy this and stay longer. This has led me to create a new model that I hope will tackle these issues.
In the Spring we will be offering 1hr group lessons for instruments age and level-appropriate. In this group setting, we will be learning music theory and technique together, we will be learning songs to play as a group together. We will have individual time for students with instructors while the rest of the group works on assignments. For students, you will have two classes a week (it’s mandatory to come to at least one) If you cannot come in person, you may join us via Zoom or watch the replay later. But wait ... That’s not all.
Since practice is still the fundamental way students/humans get better at anything. The Academy is also scheduling five 1hr Study Halls throughout the week where you can drop your student off or log on to Zoom and I will facilitate the student's practice.
So let’s recap because parents are notorious for only skimming through things.
Music lessons are broken, kids don’t like to practice, parents pick their battles and practice is not one of them. Students quit all the Time. Mr. Eric is at his wit's end and is considering joining the circus. He has decided to move to a group schedule similar to martial arts but has added five one-hour study halls where students can come in person or join via Zoom.
Your Monthly rate will stay the same. You currently pay $115 or less for an average of four 30-minute lessons a month (2hrs of time)
In the Spring Current Students will be grandfathered in and pay $115 or less.
New Students Suggested rate will be $130 a month.
All Scholarship Students will be required to progress and maintain a minimum weekly attendance or your scholarship will be forfeited.
Group Lessons (2 Hrs a Week plus five 1hr Study Halls for potentially 7 hrs a week)
We we still be offering private lessons for adult students and students who for whatever reason would like to just have one private 30-minute lesson a week. At this time, we will not be charging the current students more for private lessons but we will be adamant about practicing and regular attendance (75%)
The Proposed Schedule is in the waiting room of the school and once it is finalized it will be put on the website.
