HARLOWE’S BOOKS ARE OPEN ➡️➡️➡️

today’s artist whose booking process i’ll be highlighting is harlowe!! harlowe is a senior apprentice at rctc. she’s been with us for almost two years now and is an accomplished tattooer of 8 months. they work in an abstract, deeply unique style that i don’t see anywhere else in madison, with precise lines, gentle shading, and bright color.

harlowe’s books are open on a rolling basis for both flash and custom designs. you can find her flash in the “available” and “flash” highlights on their instagram profile and book through the google form linked in their bio.

his preferences for customs are as follows: full color work, bodies, bugs, mythological and magical subjects, textured work, q***r imagery, larger pieces (think thigh or full arm placement), abstract linework and still life work. she’s not interested in memorial tattoos, fine line work, realism, or portraits of either pets or people.

harlowe is also focusing on text tattoos at the moment, so if you have any plans for even small pieces of text, contact them!

i cannot say enough about how much of a pleasure it is to have harlowe in the space. do yourself a favor and book with them 🖤

LUCIA’S BOOKS ARE OPEN ➡️➡️➡️

the next artist whose booking process i’m highlighting is our apprentice lucia! lucia’s books are also open on a rolling basis. she is in the second stage of her apprenticeship, where we as her mentors trust her to make quality work without constant supervision, and are atill available to talk through anything that might come up during the tattoo. not to be overly sappy but i am so proud of her and the amount of work she has done! her lines are crispy and her compositions are striking and bold. she’s a fantastic tattooer already.

lucia’s booking form is linked in her bio. she’s taking custom pieces at the moment and will be posting more of her flash soon, so follow her and keep an eye out!

GLORY’S BOOKS ARE OPEN ➡️➡️➡️ .voorheez

over the next few days i will be posting about each artist at red clover’s booking process, as we get a lot of questions about how to book! each artist has their own methods of booking appointments and handles their own booking. i’ll be starting with glory!

glory’s books are open on a rolling basis— to book with them, you don’t need to wait for a set time or date. they have a form linked in their bio .voorheez you can submit for flash or custom and a highlight of available flash pieces on their page, some of which you can see here!

glory is a community-taught artist who is proficient in both handpoke and machine tattooing, favors bold black lines, dark and gothy subjects, and mystical concepts. if you’re looking for a blackwork artist with great music taste, hit them up 🖤

STOP PINKWASHING GENOCIDE
3:00 PM
STATE CAPITOL
12.17.23

Israel continues to try and pinkwash their genocidal campaign by claiming to be a “safe haven” for LGBTQ people in the Middle East while also trying to dehumanize the people of Palestine.

Continuing to drop bombs on innocent Palestinian civilians, Israel makes no distinction between those who are LGBTQ and those who are not.

Political enablers like Tammy Baldwin and the majority of the mainstream Democrats are all too happy to oblige their requests for ever more money and weapons.

We say enough is enough! We will not let our politicians hide behind their so-called ‘democratic values’ while continuing to enable Israel’s crimes!

Come out on the 17th to show that q***r people stand with Palestine!

INTRO: CAITLIN

Boozhoo,

My name is Caitlin Newago (Binesiikwens.) I am a member of the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians, and am from the Oneida Nation of WI as well (I’m a Powless on my maternal side.) I’m a big ol crybaby Cancer ♋️ with a Libra moon & ascendant! I started as an apprentice with RCTC officially just a couple months ago.

My artistic style is heavily influenced by historical Anishinaabe beadwork, floral designs, and quillwork. My works are comprised of Ojibwe floral designs using historical mediums including birchbark and porcupine quills. I also take these designs and turn them into digital artwork. I aim to keep the designs traditional, but to create modern work with contemporary flair. I create art that is reflective of my culture and the way that it continues to be preserved, practiced, and adapts to changing times. I aim to translate this into tattooing as well.

I’ve wanted to tattoo since I was a little girl, and I’m incredibly grateful to be a part of this safe, ethical, and inclusive collective! I look forward to learning and growing as an artist by learning from the best 🖤 Miigwech!

INTRODUCTION: GLORY/SQUARE

My name is Square, but I am also called Glory. My sun is in Capricorn 🐐 and my pronouns are currently they/them (or any fitting gender-avoidant pronouns)
I began tattooing doing stick n pokes seven-ish years ago while I was a youth, hopping trains and hitch-hiking across the States. Six years ago I gave birth to my child, stopped traveling, and eventually worked as an EMT for two years; one year pre-Covid and one year during lockdown. I got serious about machine tattooing in 2021, but I still offer and am passionate about hand-poking.

My style is directly translated from my early hand-poked designs; they are bold-lined, black and white, stipple-shaded tattoos.
When I create and design I am pondering and attempting to depict the essence of life cycles, death, re-birth, and transformation from a range of perspectives, including human, animal, mineral, elemental etc., as well as how emotions and experience effect them. Through art I try to challenge my own views of dichotomies and balance, of good and evil, right and wrong, black and white.

I am a community taught machine and hand poke tattooist and I am earnestly in love with tattooing. I was under the impression that I, as a Black femme-presenting person, would never have the opportunity to work in a shop or make money tattooing and was thus content to give out free or donation based tattoos to friends and family forever. Having had the opportunity to learn consent-based, machine tattooing in a Black and POC, q***r-affirming shop and private studio in the Carolinas, I am so inspired to make waves in the world of tattooing and make space for and give voice to marginalized artists and clients.
Tattooing is traditionally a gate-kept industry. I can't wait to see the styles, perspectives, and stories that emerge when the art-form is fully open and accessible to a wider range of people!

Thank you for your time and consideration
-Glory/Square

Ari’s books are open!! You can access their form here: http://bit.ly/AriG-submission-form

This round Ari will be prioritizing pre-drawn designs (numbered in slides 2-8), and a much smaller number of custom prices to keep this booking period more manageable. If they don’t select your project this time around that doesn’t mean it’s not an awesome idea or that he’s not interested in doing it in the future! They’ve come to realize just how limited their energy and time resources are and they’re trying hard to take care of themself, and in turn, you all as well.

He’ll be going over all your submissions over the next 2 weeks and the lovely El will be getting back to all of you and will be facilitating scheduling 💖

INTRODUCTION: MAR

Mar (they/he) is a white, q***r, and mad autistic artist. They strive to engage with tattooing as a consensual, trauma-informed practice that centers collaboration and the client experience, making art inspired by vintage illustrations, woodcuts, naturalist watercolors, pattern-making, and his clients. They love old maps, indulgent fantasy novels, savory pastries, and are a bit of a luddite. While Mar contends with dissociation and trying mental health daily, their relationships and intentionality help ground them, and they’re deeply grateful for the home they’ve found in their friends.

Photos from RCTC's post 01/23/2023

Nipinet/Ned (they/them) is a Michif, Anishinaabe & white mixed tattooer. They are a descendant of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa and a citizen of the Manitoba Métis Federation. They like bold colors and bold linework, woodcuts, Ojibwe and Michif floral designs, horror, anime, and ledger art. Their tattooing practice is focused on connection and reclamation of culture and identity, especially for the Native community. When not tattooing Ned fundraises for mutual aid, road trips to the plains, makes comics, illustrations, and concept art, plays FFXIV and cosplays. Their cat Jiji is a celebrity.

INTRODUCING RED CLOVER TATTOO COLLECTIVE

xąąwįjop / nisoobag / li clover roozh / dzẽ clover / תלתן אדום (til’tan adom) / seamair dhearg

Clover, or the genus trifolium, is a collective of more than 300 species of flowering plants native to various parts of the world. Many of them are naturalized in North America and some are native here. The word for clover in Hoocąk is xąąwįjop, in Anishinaabemowin nisoobag, in Michif li clover roozh, in Ewe dzẽ clover, in Hebrew תלתן אדום (til’tan adom), and in Irish seamair dhearg. Red clover is something we see around us in the Teejop area and all over the midwest, a useful medicine for a variety of ailments and a beautiful, bright addition to the landscape.

Over the last several months, we (Nipinet, Mar, Bear, Ari, and Harlowe) have been in the process of reorganizing our collective. We’re excited to introduce ourselves again as Red Clover Tattoo Collective, a 50% Native owned and 100% q***r owned tattoo and arts collective on W***y Street. Not much is changing! We’re still focused on community care, mutual aid, and providing a space for people to engage in the healing practice of tattooing. We’re looking forward to our future collaborations and we have a lot in store for the upcoming year. Chi miigwech for sticking with us. We hope to be around to work with all of you for many years to come.
