Join Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin as we participate in Riverwest 24, a 24-hour biking marathon, held in the neighborhood of Riverwest MKE. PPAWI will be leading a BONUS CHECKPOINT!

Bonus Checkpoints are fun and engaging activities for attendees to take a break from the marathon and learn more about different services and resources available in their communities!

State Supreme Court agrees to hear two abortion cases The liberal-controlled state Supreme Court backed hearing a case that argues the Wisconsin Constitution guarantees the right to an abortion, along with a separate case challenging an 1849 law that had been interpreted as banning abortion in Wisconsin except to save the life of the mother.

"The Wisconsin Supreme Court is going to decide on abortion.

Wisconsin Supreme Court to hear challenges to Wisconsin abortion law (The Center Square) – The Wisconsin Supreme Court is going to decide on abortion.

"The idea that Donald Trump is forcing the Republican Party to moderate its extreme positions on abortion and LGBTQ rights would make for an interesting story. So interesting, in fact, that the story was all over the mainstream press. The only problem with this very interesting story is that it didn’t happen."

Stop Soft-Pedaling the GOP’s Extreme Positions The party’s platform on abortion and LGBTQ rights is just as radical as ever.

Headlines declared the GOP platform “softened” on abortion opposition. The reality is nothing has changed, and a national abortion ban is still possible and the goal of the GOP.

The GOP platform is dangerous, disingenuous, and out of touch with the overwhelming majority of Wisconsinites on everything, including abortion.

The overturning of Roe has created a patchwork of laws, restrictions, and different standards of care across the country. All of which creates chaos, confusion, and fear. All of which puts the lives and health of women and people who can become pregnant at risk.

The absence of federal protection for people to receive abortion care means that some states protect reproductive freedom and equal citizenship for people who can become pregnant, while others do not.

The description of overturning of Roe as simply “returning the power to the states” is dishonest. The GOP, and the anti-abortion movement, want to create a national ban. Anti-abortion groups have already indicated the platform leaves open the possibility of a national abortion ban and fetal personhood. Constitutional protections for fetuses would mean that it is the Constitution itself that prohibits abortion – a direct conflict with abortion as a state’s rights issue.

Whether legislatively or through the courts, the attacks on abortion, contraception, IVF, and gender affirming care have intensified. These attacks are not only at the state level. We are seeing them play out in the federal courts, where disastrous decisions would limit or eliminate access to abortion even in states that have chosen to protect reproductive rights. The GOP platform on abortion has not softened. It continues to put the health and lives of millions of people at risk.

Period.

Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin knows the issue of abortion access and bodily autonomy is of statewide importance and we are grateful the Wisconsin Supreme Court has agreed to take this case.

Wisconsinites need and deserve resolution to the questions before the court. With continued attacks on abortion, as well as other s*xual and reproductive health care like contraception, gender affirming care, and IVF, protecting access to abortion and establishing protections for bodily autonomy is essential to ensuring everyone can make decisions about their reproductive health and lives.

Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin will continue to provide abortion care services at our Water Street Health Center in Milwaukee, Madison East Health Center, and Sheboygan Health Center. We will continue essential work to help protect and expand reproductive freedom in Wisconsin so that everyone who needs comprehensive reproductive health care in our state can get the nonjudgmental and compassionate care they deserve.

Supreme Court rejects challenge to abortion pill mifepristone | CNN Politics The Supreme Court on Thursday rejected a lawsuit challenging the Food and Drug Administration’s approach to regulating the abortion pill mifepristone with a ruling that will continue to allow the pills to be mailed to patients without an in-person doctor’s visit.
