It may only be November but Ms. Kathy has been hard at work in the sewing room getting these beautiful tutus ready for our dancers who will be competing at YAGP (Youth America Grand Prix) this winter. We can't wait to see all the new tutus on stage!
It's another and we're shuffling (tap dancers get it 😉) our way towards the weekend!
This is no joke, it's already Halloween! 🎃👻
How has dance affected your life? Skills learned from dance are valuable for all students whether they decide to go into the career field or not. Dance is for everyone!
Dance Wisconsin's annual fundraiser, the Muggle-Friendly Halloween Party, will be held at our studios on 2605 S. Stoughton Rd! All are welcome, this is a family-friendly (children must be accompanied by an adult). We hope to see you tomorrow tonight!
All proceeds go to Dance Wisconsin.
The party starts tomorrow! We hope to see you there! Muggles and wizards of all ages are invited to join us for one magical evening from 6:00-9:00pm.
Entry fee is $10 per person at the door (cash only). All children must be accompanied by adults for the entire party, our hosts are NOT equipped to be chaperones for party-goers. Doors close at 6:30pm.
We'd be lyin' if we said we weren't excited for Halloween! From October 26-31 dancers are invited to wear a costume to class. Please make sure you can still move and dance in your costume!
We're excited to see what creatures and characters come to class!
Please give a very big welcome to our new team member, Mr. Ben!
Originally from Houston, Ben began his training with Vitacca Ballet School, the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, and graduated from Houston Ballet Academy. He has danced professionally with Ballet West, Colorado Ballet, Ballet Des Moines, and Ballet San Antonio. A fun fact about Ben is that he also competes as a professional ballroom dancer in International Latin!

It's ! Hold onto your hats, it's almost the weekend!
Dance keeps us on our toes! From a young age dancers practice quick thinking and flexibility (and we're not just talking about stretching our splits!). We're always ready for any situation and ready to conquer any task. What skills do we exercise in the studio and on stage?
CREATIVE THINKING helps us in sticky situations, but most importantly...create art! Dancers learn to interpret and adapt work that best showcases their abilities. How do we tell a story through movement? Maybe there was a turn or a lift in choreography that didn't seem to work and we need to replace it with a different step? You have a great idea for a dance, but how do you turn it into three minutes of choreography? Dance helps you build a mental toolbox of ways to get creative juices flowing. How do you look at something differently, what functions better, what show's off my teams' assests, what will keep my audience interested?
ADAPTABILITY teaches students to improvise, solve problems on the spot, and handle unexpected situations. Dancers learn how to be understudies, change formations to adapt to number of students present, keep performing even if there's a costume malfunction, etc. Students become skilled in improvisation as a practice or when they need to fill in a few counts of choreography to match the existing aesthetic of the movement. We're always ready to plan for the unexpected or fill in for a teammate in need.
TIME MANAGEMENT is important whether a student is making it to class on time or staying on the beat of the music with their peers. How do you prepare for your next class or next task? How do we change our shoes or costume quick enough before our next entrance on stage? Dancers begin to understand their responsibility to complete one task successfully in order to work on their next task and how it might affect their team as a whole. As dancers grow older they begin to take accountability of their own time and schedule such as arriving early to stretch, warm-up, and condition their bodies prior to class. They learn how their ability to manage time can benefit themselves and their peers.
With skills like these, dancers can be ready for any task thrown their way!
We've got smiles on our faces because it's National Dance Week! Tell us, what do you love most about dance? We love getting to dance with you every week, seeing friendships grow, and watch dancers become young artists!
