Saturday's puppy class got to do an obstacle course - they weaved through cones, did push-ups on a platform, walked through a ladder, practiced leave-it, sat and then walked through a hoop, rolled a die to determine how many commands their dog would have to do in a row, and finally sent their dog to their bed. The puppies had never experienced the ladder or hoop before so conquering these new obstacles was confidence building! You'll notice Patrick the Boston Terrier didn't go to his bed right away. This was a great example of why letting a dog take the information given and problem solve it is so important. Lesson learned - be patient and let your dog figure out the correct choice!

Can your dog wait for their meal?! 😋 🚦It's important to first establish a red light word (that means to hold position) and a green light word (that means they can be released from that position). Don't lower the bowl all the way to the ground, release the dog to it while it's still in your hand. If you want to try this during meal time, just keep a cup of their food and drop little pieces in so you can get more reps in during feeding time! In this video, trainer Lora is using treats! Her red light word is "sit," and the green light word is "okay."

♥️💕These dogs have worked so hard! Tonight we worked on turns for loose leash walking (turning away from distractions) and also mat work while other dogs were walking by! Great work everyone!

Great work tonight in puppy class!

🐾Cedar is working hard with her parents at home and it shows! Great work little superstar! ⭐ Check out that loose leash walking!

Nothing better than seeing a big Mastiff puppy run as fast as he can to get to his Mom! Go Hamish!! It's never too early, or late for that matter, to practice recall training to get your dog happily running to you when called. We can help you start the training, or restart your training if needed.

Sometimes my students really impress me! This is Richard showing me Abby's trick at puppy graduation tonight. That's a four month old puppy doing a leave it with treats on both of her paws!!

Last week of Puppy Perks - puppies are going happily to their beds and staying there (pretty consistently) until released. Now their owners are going to work on getting further away while the puppy is staying on their bed. This is a great exercise for when company comes over!
