Had a great visit down to Bok Tower Gardens today with Chris and Jim of Stone Tile Group and David and Mark from BTG to learn more about the stone used on this monumental project and how it has fared for almost 100 years in the Florida climate
Sea levels have already risen a foot in Florida since the 1970's. The Upper Limit Projects works to set a maximum water elevation where Florida can still be economically stable and sustainable. This will help local governments and design professionals have a standard to design to as we all learn to deal with our new reality.
Keep Florida Above Water We are a team of environmental strategists, non-profit leaders, climate scientists, and civic professionals who have galvanized around the unique idea that just like the UN Conference of the Parties set an upper limit to the amount of warming our planet can withstand with the Paris Climate Accord .....
Nice way to start this event
There are some encouraging signs coming out of Fort Myers after Hurricane Ian. Babcock Ranch is a community of 2000 homes run entirely on solar energy. No solar panels were damaged and they never lost power. Planting Florida native plants eliminated tree damage and intelligent site grading meant no flooded houses.
Good planning and design and an optimistic outlook is our only way out of this global crisis. We are certainly not there yet, but without those willing to try, we will never get there.
If you don't know about the solar microgrids being built in Puerto Rico and the Bahamas, it is really interesting and successful and financially viable. Maybe check it out. We just need to turn the corner and get out from underneath the lame excuses politicians and Big Energy keep giving us. Otherwise we are all going to watch them rebuild a system in SW Florida that is most likely going to add to the climate problem and fail again in the next hurricane.
Cheers to the future!
This 100% solar community endured Hurricane Ian with no loss of power and minimal damage | CNN Climate resiliency was built into the fabric of Babcock Ranch with stronger storms in mind, and Hurricane Ian was a major test.
Finally. Go Gators!
