Geeks Who Drink at Hugh O'Neill's

Looking forward to seeing everyone tonight at our Quiz for a Cause at Hugh O'Neill's! Just wanted to share some tips in advance of tonight's game!

1) Trivia will start promptly at 7pm -- Please do your best to arrive between 6:30 and 6:45 so we have time to get everyone checked in before the game!
2) Fundraising will happen in two ways -- please bring cash (small bills if you can) but we will be prepared to accept venmo:
for a requested donation of $5 per player, donating teams will be eligible to win a percentage of the pot if they come in first place
beginning at 6:30, anyone can request a song to be played over the house sound IMMEDIATELY in exchange for $1 more than the previous person paid. So let's say I start us off by giving a dollar to hear "Call Me Maybe" but that's so overplayed! You can come up with $2 to shut than down and replace it with the song of your choice. If someone else wants to interrupt your song, it will cost $3, and so on.
3) Normally Hugh O'Neill's is not the kind of place you need a reservation -- but to help out our lovely front out house staff, please consider making one today, ESPECIALLY if you are in a group of 5 or more people.
4) The maximum number of players for a winning team is 6. The minimum is 1.
5) Prizes! We have a first and second place prize for the two highest scoring teams tonight, as well as an individual prize for top donor! Our most generous participant will get to choose a piece of Pride merch from the Geeks Who Drink Pub Quizzes shop to have custom ordered for you at the end of the game.

TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT! We're back to business, quizzing again. There have been a few changes over the break, so be prepared for:

- EARLIER START TIME, 7PM. We're going to kick off promptly at 7, so be there a little early and hold on to your butts!

- CHARGE YOUR PHONE. The pencils and answer packets stay tucked away in case they've got plague on 'em. One person per team will submit their answers over the phone, the rest of the team keeps the phones away or gets DQ'ed

- LISTEN TO THE READING OF THE RULES. There have been some tweaks there too, and if you talk over the rules, you will be confused and fall behind. Keep up with us, we are going to the future

- BE KIND AND GENEROUS WITH YOUR SERVER. They've also had a real rough year, so lets be cool.

Hi all! A quick update: Hugh's is open again for patio service and we anticipate they'll be reopening indoor seating again soon. Geeks Who Drink is not prepared to come back this month; and frankly with all the precautions the bar is taking (and we're glad they are!) it's just too soon to bring pub quiz back. I hope to have good news for you before the summer is over, but until then please continue to stream the weekly quiz Tuesday nights at 9pm on Twitch. You can even grab curbside takeout from Hugh's beforehand and text your answers to our old bonus number to make it feel almost like normal.

Congratulations to this week's local winners, She's a Hydroxychloro Killer Quine! Runners up Joey Triviani were really closing in this week, and everyone did poorly on Round 2. Like...really poorly. I've been telling you all for years to study an atlas before quiz. If you had to miss this week, you can catch the replay on twitch or youtube starting tomorrow. And as always, you can text in pictures of baby animals literally any time.

The doors at Hugh's remain closed for everyone's safety, but you can still keep up your competitive streak with a virtual quiz tonight! This is how we do it...

1. Virtually assemble your team (6 players at most!) and select a team captain: this person will submit your answers and may need to provide an email address if you win.

2. Go to www.twitch.tv/geekswhodrinkpubquizzes for a quiz starting at 9pm local time (being broadcast nationwide)!

3. After each round, text your answers to (914)-ITS-FUNK. Same old bonus question #. I'll keep score for you (don't forget to give me a team name) and post the winners on Wednesdays! The winning team can receive a digital gift card to Hugh O'Neill's in Malden, where I'm looking forward to eventually reuniting with you all.

5. Couple of pro tips: a) Turn off the chat on the Twitch stream. We're on the honor code here and you know some folks can't help screaming their answers into the chat. b) For each player, it'll be way easier if you have one device dedicated to watching the stream and another to chat/send answer sheets. I like to stream from my laptop and chat from my phone.

6. We've used this Bonus Question number since 2014, and have only ever had to block one person. *Please* continue to be cool about it, and only use it to a) send answers during quiz b) send pet photos literally whenever you have them.
