Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

The goal of the Mass. public K-12 and adult education system is to prepare all students for success.

The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education was developed to oversee all K-12 education within the commonwealth. The Department's work includes licensing educators, distributing state and federal education money, helping districts implement learning standards, overseeing statewide standardized tests, monitoring schools and districts, and convening districts and individuals to share best practices. In addition, we collect data to inform state and local decisions.

Have you ever looked back at an old yearbook to see if the superlatives came true? Sometimes they do! Look who was one of the winners for the "most likely to become an Olympian" superlative in the 2017-2018 O'Donnell Middle School Yearbook! Fred Richard!

Fred, as you may know, won a spot on the U.S. men's gymnastics Olympic team and will be competing at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris!

Fred is a Stoughton High grad (class of 2022), and a former OMS and Dawe Elementary School student. He is a rising junior at Michigan.

We can't wait to cheer him on at the Olympics!

You can do it.

“Commit and go for it. Do it to win. Do it as an inspiration to your family. If I can do it at 52, you can too. Apply yourself, don’t just get passed along.” -Terry, Student Ambassador
