The day the Golden Gate “sagged” — its 50th anniversary. A group organized a walk across the bridge, expecting a crowd of 80,000.

Instead, 800,000 arrived.

At one point the bridge began to sway and sag. Some people even threw off bicycles to lighten the load. But luckily, the Bridge held up.

As one engineer out it, “I wasn’t worried. The Golden Gate? She can handle a whole lot worse.”

In the late ‘60s, Wisconsin Senator Ga***rd Nelson mobilized students passionate about the anti-war movement to band together and protest against environmental pollution.

After gaining loads of media attention, these protests finally led to the first Earth Day on April 22, 1970.

52 years later, Earth Day is a global phenomenon, with more than a billion folks celebrating annually. That’s right, a billion.
