EEC Sheds a Light on Mental Health Awareness

Before May (Mental Health Awareness Month) concludes, Join us in shining a light on a critical cause: the mental health challenges faced by workers in the construction and electrical industries.

The construction and electrical sectors pose unique mental health challenges. Shockingly, construction workers face one of the highest su***de rates across all industries, with male workers over four times more likely to die by su***de than the general population due to job-related stress, financial pressures, and stigma.

For over 50 years, EEC has prioritized the well-being of our employees, offering comprehensive benefits that now include telehealth benefits for access to mental health professionals.

Supporting mental health is a collective effort. Regular check-ins with colleagues, friends, and loved ones can make a world of difference to someone struggling silently.

Let's commit to ongoing dialogue and action. EEC will continue fostering a supportive environment and advocating for mental health awareness and resources.

To celebrate this milestone, some of our executives took John out for a well-deserved celebration last week. Though his anniversary was in April, we were thrilled to finally gather in May to honor his remarkable journey.

πŸŒŸπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ What a day! Our team of energetic EEC employees joined the The Sweet Julia Grace Foundation this past weekend for their annual Adult Field Day, and it was an absolute blast despite the downpour! Embracing Sweet Julia Grace’s spirit of "dancing in the rain," we tackled a variety of fun and challenging activities, proving that teamwork and joy can shine through any weather.

The best part? Every dollar raised goes directly to the Sweet Julia Grace Foundation, a wonderful organization based in Northern Virginia that supports children facing serious medical challenges by providing them with joy, comfort, and assistance. We're proud to support such a meaningful cause and be a part of this fantastic community event.

Securing Our Future: Building Safety, Building Prosperity

Did you know safety isn't just about following rules? It's a game-changer for ESOP companies like ours:

β€’ Enhanced Employee Engagement: A safe environment isn't just about physical well-being; it's about empowering our team to bring their best selves to work every day. When our people feel safe, they're more engaged, productive, and creative.
β€’ Reduced Costs: Safety saves lives and money. But it's more than just numbers; it's about doing what's right, not what's easy. By preventing accidents and injuries, we protect our most valuable assetβ€”our peopleβ€”and ensure that our profits go back into our ESOP, benefitting all employee-owners.
β€’ Improved Reputation: Our commitment to safety isn't just about meeting regulations; it's about building trust and reliability. Safety is non-negotiable, and it's what sets us apart as a company that does things the right way, every time.
β€’ Long-Term Sustainability: Safety isn't just a priority; it's the foundation of our future success. We believe that safety is non-negotiable because the well-being of our team is paramount. By investing in a safe work environment, we're not just protecting our people today; we're ensuring the longevity and prosperity of our company for years to come.

At Ennis Electric, safety isn't just a priority; it's a promise. Join us in building a safer, more prosperous future for all employee-owners.

πŸ”¨ Elevating Safety: The Advantages of Climbing Style Hard Hats 🚧

At Ennis Electric, where safety is paramount for our 115-strong team in the DC metro area, we recently upgraded from standard hard hats to climbing-style helmets with chin straps. This shift isn't just a cosmetic change; it's a strategic move to enhance safety. The snug fit and secure chin straps of these helmets ensure they stay in place, offering superior protection in dynamic environments. Moreover, climbing-style hard hats often come with additional features such as built-in ventilation systems, providing increased comfort for our team members during long shifts in varying weather conditions. With enhanced impact resistance, stability, and added comfort, our workforce can navigate heights and challenging terrain with confidence.

One of Ennis Electric's core values is not taking unnecessary risks. Our mission statement is "we do what's right, not what's easy." Incorporating this philosophy into our safety protocols isn't just a choice; it's a promise we uphold every day. Ensuring everyone returns home safely, just as they arrived, isn't just a goalβ€”it's our commitment.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our former colleague, John Fedowitz. John was an integral part of our Ennis Electric family for 28 years contributing greatly to our success and leaving behind a legacy that will be remembered by all who had the privilege of working with him.

Please take a moment to reflect on the time you shared with John and keep his family in your thoughts as we honor his memory together.

🚧 Building the Right Safety Habits, Daily 🦺

As most people in the construction industry can attest, having a safety program made up of policies and protocols is necessary but doesn't guarantee the safety of the people performing the work. Keeping people safe while doing dangerous things in dangerous places is far more about us actually understanding the dangers of the job and knowing what to do about them.

We are creatures of habit, so when it comes to safety, building the right habits is critically important. πŸ’‘ This is why the Daily safety brief is so valuable. When done correctly, it helps us build the right habits each day and gives us this framework for keeping ourselves and our teammates safe:

1️. What specific work are we performing today?
2️. What dangers do we face when performing this specific work, in this environment, around the other people doing their work?
3️. What are we doing to eliminate or mitigate these dangers? What can go wrong? What will we do and NOT do if something does go wrong?
4️. What specific tools and equipment are being used by who? Are they properly trained, and have they proven their proficiency with that tool or equipment? Who is supervising them?
5️. Finally, has anything surprised us or fallen through the cracks that we need to address to keep each other safe today?

If we're not intentionally taking time to build the right habits, the wrong and unsafe habits will creep in through complacency and the chaos of the job site. Programs, policies, and protocols are good guides, but it’s the people that truly make the difference between safe and unsafe.

-Chris Saltzman, VP of Operations

🚧 Ensuring Safety in Every Trench: It's Construction Safety Week, and we're shedding light on the vital measures we take to protect our team during trench work.

Trench Safety is Paramount:
When our crew heads underground for electrical and communications projects, safety isn't just a priorityβ€”it's non-negotiable. Here's how we ensure every member stays secure:
1. Shoring:
In the face of unstable conditions, we turn to vertical hydraulic shores. These trusty tools swiftly reinforce trenches, warding off cave-ins and keeping our team out of harm's way.
2. Shielding:
For deeper digs, we rely on sturdy steel or aluminum trench boxes. These pre-built shields fortify the walls, offering a solid barrier against potential hazards, even in the most expansive excavations.
3. Excavation Ditch Protection:
Safety isn't just about our crewβ€”it's about everyone on site. From pedestrians to vehicle traffic, we take comprehensive measures to safeguard all. From system railing to danger tape and portable barricades, we ensure every angle is covered.

πŸ“Έ Thank you for the photos and content, Mike Stoker (Site Superintendent)! These images showcase the equipment we trust to keep our trenches safe and our team secure.

As we celebrate Construction Safety Week, let's remember: no job is worth risking lives. Let's all go home the way we came in. Safety isn't just a priority; it's a promise we make to each other every day.

🚧 Construction Safety Week Kick-Off 🚧

"Don't Take Unnecessary Risks. Let’s all go home the way that we came!" As Construction Safety Week begins, we emphasize the non-negotiable importance of safety every day, every hour. This week isn't just about Ennis Electric; It's about the entire construction industry coming together to raise awareness, promote best practices, and empower workers to prioritize safety. By sharing knowledge, recognizing achievements, and fostering partnerships, Safety Week drives continuous improvement in construction safety standards across the board. Let's ensure that every person who walks onto our sites returns home safely. Together, let's make safety not just a priority, but a way of life.
