From this week’s gospel: “(W)hover gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones that in the name of a disciple—truly I tell you, none of these will lose their reward.” Matthew 10:42
My task for today is to write a sermon - and I also planned to meet Renee Franson from Augustana Lutheran Church (Underwood, ND) to pick up supplies donated for fresh start kits. Bridges of Hope provides those kits to youth and adults leaving at incarceration at the Youth Correctional Center and the Heart River Correctional Center. They’re a tangible reminder of God’s love and the love of the community. We’ve been blessed with so many quilts in recent weeks - wrapping folks in the warmth of God’s unconditional love.
I’m overwhelmed with gratitude for the quilts and the carload of exactly what is needed. And it was a better sermon than anything I might write. Thank you, Deacon Jodi Lorenz and Augustana!
At Synod Assembly - Pastor Gail Hagerty, Paul Kadrmas, Amy Nelson. Ann Crews Melton presented a workshop, too!
Our hygiene pantry is dwindling. If the Spirit moves you, here are items we really need:
Shampoo
Conditioner
Deodorant - for women and men
Nail clippers
Feminine hygiene products
Towels
Wash clothes
Hair products for Black folks
Socks for men and women
These items are used for fresh start kits for youth and adults as they transition from incarceration to the community. The kits are a tangible welcome and sign of God’s love.

One year ago we posted this for . Sadly, the war continues so we once again lift this prayer for peace, justice and love.
We were blessed with the presence of more than 30 residents of the Heart River Correctional Center as we gathered for Ash Wednesday worship. Because of the frigid weather and blowing snow, they were transported in groups of three or four. They’d asked if we could sing “Amazing Grace,” and Amy Eilers and Joy Sorenson helped with a spontaneous hymn sing as the chapel filled and emptied. It was one of those Spirit gifts!
The moments before worship
A sampling of gifts from St. Paul Lutheran in Garrison. Theses gifts will provide a fresh start and hope for youth and women moving from incarceration to the community! Thank you!
I think I’ll call this lovely quilt, donated by Kristin Seaks, “The Spirit of Christmas.” Thank you, Kristin, for your support of our shared ministry, and thank you for worshipping with us!
