Relationships are paramount in having a meaningful life. At Brooklyn Minds we developed the Winnicott Program to support clients in living their best lives by helping them learn to trust others in a way that strengthens relationships. The program is designed to fill in the gaps of traditional mental health treatment by providing services in the home and in the community. With the Winnicott Program, we are able to meet life where it is actually happening.
The Winnicott Program is a concierge, companion-based service aimed at building trusting relationships and helping client’s reach their personal goals. Services are individually tailored and developed with the assistance of the client, their treatment team and family. For example, our companions may go into a client’s home to help them develop more regular morning routines or assist with home organization.

"In addition to raising concerns about how to help vulnerable individuals under conservatorships, the movement also pulls back the curtain on how we hold celebrities to impossible ideals and how hard it can be for them to lead happy lives despite seemingly limitless fame and fortune. This past week the world watched as American Gymnast Simone Biles withdrew from the team competition at the Olympics citing overwhelming mental health concerns she refers to as her inner demons. She has been managing intense pressure to continue to be “the best gymnast the world has ever seen,” which the media reminds us at every turn. It is hard for any of us to imagine the level of scrutiny and admiration that individuals like Simone and Britney face."

Britney Spears is one of 1.3 million Americans living under conservatorship/guardianship arrangements where an adult’s decision making power around their health, their life and their finances can be placed in the hands of someone else due to concerns around their ability to make these decisions on their own. This is murky and poorly regulated terrain, particularly when mental health issues are at play.
While we don’t know all the details of her specific case, here are ten considerations for those who are directly involved from Brooklyn Minds co-founder Dr. Carlene MacMillan - someone whose career as a psychiatrist has focused on helping individuals live to their fullest in their communities while living with significant mental illness:
1. Neutral professional fiduciary w/o conflicts of interest 🕊⚖️
2. Least Restrictive environment ⛓🛣
3. Non-Draconian $ Guardrails 💸
4. Time-Limited, Reviewed ⏳🙎♀️

The Frontier Psychiatrists recently hosted a conversation on Clubhouse about why so many mental health influencers are essentially faking mental illnesses like Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID).
We quickly learned that not only was DID frequently trending on TikTok and Instagram, but other mental disorders that can be portrayed visually like Tourette’s, ADHD and Autism were taking up TikTok front page real estate the same way videos tagged with the much more innocuous hashtags.
Why are TikTok influencers faking mental illness? Visit The Frontier Psychiatrists on Substack and our panel of mental health professionals and legit influencers will break it all down for you.

Join The Frontier Psychiatrists tomorrow, July 9th at 1PM EDT on Clubhouse when Dr. Carlene MacMillan and Dr. Owen Muir discuss the challenges of raising awareness of effective treatments for substance use and mental illness in an algorithm driven world.
The “Just Say No” slogan was created by the Needham, Harper & Steers advertising agency in the 1980s and made famous by then First Lady Nancy Reagan as part of the U.S. “War on Drugs”. The slogan was intended to discourage children from engaging in illegal recreational drug use.
40 years later, the War on Drugs has backfired and countless lives have been lost around the world. This misguided war is now being fought across social media platforms whose algorithms silence the wrong information about substance use and make it difficult for people to both discuss harm reduction strategies and psychedelic medicine.
With guests Chris Vazquez, Jeremy Fox, RJ Smith, Alyssa Riccio, Kimberly Juroviesky, Liberation Iannillo, Colin Marcom, Cass Biron, LCSW, Ben Lightburn

Today at 1PM on Clubhouse join The Frontier Psychiatrists for a discussion about the troubling trend of TikTok influencers faking mental illness.
iD magazine recently reported "...video-first platforms like TikTok are changing the way Munchausen’s syndrome manifests. As moving image eclipses static posts, posers are choosing dynamic disorders — and ones that can be easily exaggerated for comic effect. One apparently common culprit is Tourette’s, as well as the general impersonation of similar motor and vocal tics. Videos show mundane activities being interrupted by expletives, and often more extreme outbursts than those most common with Tourette’s, which may be less noticeable in a short video."
The Frontier Psychiatrists explore clout chasing that takes the form of faking mental illness online. Learn about Munchausen-by-internet and reflect on how algorithms play a part in reinforcing it.
