K-State Traffic:

Over many seasons, I’ve seen the challenges K-State fans face when traveling to games, especially those coming from the northwest part of Kansas—north of I-70 and west of Manhattan.

Based on my experience, it’s always best to get north of I-70 as early as possible, guiding yourself into Manhattan from the north via Highway 24. This route tends to be smoother with fewer delays.

While K-18 often experiences rolling congestion near the Manhattan city limits, the most significant concern this year is the traffic on I-70 near Junction City. With ongoing construction causing a single lane for eastbound motorists, we expect substantial traffic buildup. This could lead to extended delays, stoppages, and, unfortunately, potential crashes.

In addition to delays, we’ve seen rear-end crashes occur due to distracted driving or lack of attention to the traffic ahead. Risky behaviors like passing on shoulders or cutting off other motorists in the construction zone only increase the danger. These actions heighten the conflict with other drivers, especially in the single lane of eastbound traffic.

Motorists need to prepare and leave hours earlier than they typically would on game days. This construction zone on I-70 in the Junction City area will cause significant delays, stoppages, and potentially crashes.

Hey, wouldn’t it be nice to get to Manhattan hours earlier than usual? Just imagine hanging out with fellow fans, soaking in the excitement, and getting ready for a great game. That sounds pretty pleasing to me! 😀

Increase your following distance, limit distractions, slow down, and be patient.

Remember, the earlier you get north of I-70, the more success you’ll have in avoiding delays and stops. Safe travels, and enjoy the game!
