Happy honey harvesting! 🍯
This is our first honey harvest of the season. From this location, we harvested 31 supers, about 1500 lbs of honey from 24 hives. Thank you to the K-State Department of Entomology for coming out to help! You can see McLab at Kansas State University holding the fully capped honey frame. They were very excited to see that!

It is possible for packages to make honey the first year. Providing them with a brood box of pulled wax helps of course. Our 175 Olivarez packages with Randy Oliver's Golden West Queens are averaging 2 full supers with as many as 5 and the flow is still on. Blooming Alfalfa, Hairy Vetch, Buckwheat, white sweet clover, late Yellow SweetClover, and more.
Welcome Home Nate! After a long deployment to Poland and other NATO countries with the Big Red One's Aviation Brigade, Chief Warrant Officer Nate Haase and Alicia Haase are adding supers. Nate is interning with Valor Honey. Alicia is a Journeyman , soon Master Beekeeper, and she is Valor Honey's Adminisrative Assistant. They plan on running their own
commercial operation when Nate retires.
Thank you both for serving our country and Welcome Home Nate!
Wednesday’s Where is the Queen? This queen is trying to find cells that are built out enough on some newly made wax to lay her eggs.

Valor Honey recently donated hives to support K-State Department of Entomology graduate student research. The students are evaluating the impact of introducing domestic honey bees on existing native pollinators on Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) Lands. The honey bees' work in the research will run through September of this year.
It’s time for Wednesday’s where is the queen? Queen rearing can be challenging for beginners and sometimes you can overlook that sneaky queen when grabbing frames of bees to make a mating nuc. This was the case with this queen. It didn’t work out as a mating nuc because as you can see it has a big beautiful queen but that’s ok. This is one of the reasons it is actually important to be able to spot the queen and it’s a good lesson for our interns.
Valor Honey is now available at Riley Cafe!
They've been serving homemade items for the past 11 years and ran by the owner Christine and her family. When stopping by, we highly recommend trying the limited-time, daily specials. There's nothing like homemade food, so go support them 😋
Wednesday’s Where’s the queen? (It’s like Where’s Waldo but with bees). Finding this queen might prove to be challenging. You can check her out in the observation hive at Britt’s farm. We manage the hives and honey there. So head over to Britt’s, check out the observation hive and pick up some honey!

Loved having KW Realty today at the warehouse! It was such fun teaching them about bees and getting a lot of work done at the same time. Volunteers are the driving force behind Valor Honey. Thank you guys!
Completing our first Kansas State University 3 credit hour beekeeping course is a major milestone for Valor Honey, The American Honey Producers Association, K-State, and the Kansas Department of Agriculture. Dr. Brian McCornack working alongside Gary LaGrange of Valor Honey and Chris Hiatt, President of the AHPA, are well on the way to accomplishing the creation of the American Beekeeping and Honey Institute. This initiative will bring a new level of knowledge and sophistication to a critical agricultural sector. As one of our K-State students said we are "Saving Lives, Saving Bees, and Saving an Industry". Follow us as we grow!
Wednesday’s Where’s the queen? (It’s like Where’s Waldo but with bees). This is from one of our new packages on the west side of Manhattan. This hive knows what they’re doing. This is a great laying pattern. It’s called a brood arch. The queen lays in a rounded arched pattern in the center, followed by a layer of pollen, and on the outer edge is nectar/honey. Those resources allow the nurse bees to have quick access to feed the brood. Such fun!
