Breed of the Week is here! We're going to hear about Disney's new favorite dog: Australian Cattle Dogs (or commonly known as blue/red heelers)!
As seen on Bluey TV we know they are loyal, intelligent, energetic, and honestly comical when in good company. As far as the breed themselves go, they need near CONSTANT stimulation or exercise.
Before getting an Australian Cattle Dog, here are a few things to keep in mind:
- Socialization is a must for young pups to ensure they feel confident around other people and dogs (and lessen the chance of aggression towards others)
- Keep their minds busy with jobs to do: training, busy boards, agility, swimming, playing outside, etc.
- High energy = high protein diet, be sure you're feeding good quality food in accordance to their age (puppy, adult, senior)
- As smooth coated dogs, they need brushed out once a week and bathed every 8-10 weeks. Bath packages start at $55.
- Twice a year these boogers will shed their undercoat and need to be thoroughly brushed out, getting a deshed bath package is also a good way to literally literally BLOW that hair out.
As always, make sure you are doing research before getting any type of dog to ensure they will fit your lifestyle and budget. All dogs are good dogs to good owners like you!
Take this fun BuzzFeed quiz - Which Bluey Character are you? https://www.buzzfeed.com/meghwilhelm/bluey-character-quiz Comment it below!
Happy Wednesday! Here's BREED OF THE WEEK: The Welsh Corgi 🍑
We all know they are well well known for their peach or fluffy bread-like butt floof, and that they shed like crazy a few times a year. What you may not have known (I certainly did not) that corgis are 🧚♀️Enchanted🧚♂️ - Legends state that Corgis were for fairies and elves the way humans now have horses, oxen, and other working animals. If you look closely to their coat, you can still see where the "fairy saddle" would sit! Also, they commonly will partake in "frapping" - frantic random acts of play (running in circles), more commonly known as "the zoomies".
Things to consider before getting a Fairy Steed:
- Lifespan is 12-13 years, depending on lineage and lifestyle
- Shed a lot, and require more frequent brushing
- Grooming packages start at $45 for a bath and $55 for a "face/feet/fanny" trim up, and are recommended every 6-8 weeks
- Higher energy level, meaning you'll want to engage in both physical and mental exercise regularly
- Lower training and exercise will lead to more excessive barking (that your roommates and neighbors may complain about)
- These bread bois are SMART - so get them trained up to show off at parties!
- Common health issues include: ear infections and hip dysplasia
As always, do research to make sure a breed/dog will be a good fit with your lifestyle and budget - every dog is a good dog with good owners like you!
Spring Cleaning? Who is she?
But really, we'd love your old blankets and towels. All donations are used in our facility for our boarding, daycare, and grooming guests - so they're guaranteed to be loved (and maybe eaten)!
Happy Monday - and welcome to BREED OF THE WEEK!
Huskies are evermore one of the more popular breeds across the US, and for good reason! They are sweet, sassy, immensely intelligent, very soft, and tolerate their small human overlords.
Obviously their loyalty bred the great Alaskan trek to retrieve serum for the diphtheria outbreak in 1925. What you may NOT have known is that this cunning breed was also used for search and rescue of downed planes in WWII! Planes would get the sled teams close to the wrecks and the team would make it the rest of the way to rescue the pilot and cargo from the wreckage. Talk about COOL!
Before getting a husky, here are some things to know:
- Their fur is THICK which has a dual-purpose: keeping cold and dirt out, making a mess of my couch. You'll want to watch their once-a-year shedding (it feels like it's from March to October) with lots of brushing.
- Husky bath packages start at $65 and go up depending on coat condition, size, temperament, and if you add on our deshed package.
- They are more prone to having hip dysplasia and epilepsy, which could mean a more expensive vet bill each year.
- Thicker fur = hot dog. Be sure that you have an indoor area for your pet during the hot months, regardless of where you live. They may protest coming in during the winter though, so be sure to film it and put it on social media for all of us to laugh.
As always, do research to make sure whatever dog you get is a good fit for your lifestyle and finances. All dogs are good dogs, with good owners like you!

Breed of the Week: Newfoundland!
You probably have heard that "double coated" dogs will shed 2x a year - around Spring/Fall. HOWEVER - did you know that spayed/neutered Newfies shed ALL YEAR??? This is going on my TIL list for today.
Things to consider before getting a Newfoundland:
- These dogs need brushed out (slicker brush or long tooth comb) at minimum 2 times a week.
- Professional grooming should be every 5-6 weeks, and bath packages start at $80.
- Prone to ear infections, make sure you're getting them cleaned properly on a regular basis, and checked at the vet quickly if they start to smell ye**ty (think bread dough) or they shake their heads more often.
- Males get up to 150lbs and Females to 120lbs. This means they are HUNGRY kids and will need a high-volume nutritious diet to maintain a healthy weight.
- While they are great with kids overall, they need supervised at all times when with smaller people due to their size and energy level. They can be clumsy and do things they don't mean to.
- Life expectancy is 9-11 years, dependent on lineage and lifestyle.
As always, do research to make sure a breed/dog will be a good fit with your lifestyle and budget - every dog is a good dog with good owners like you!
Happy Spring Break! Be safe this week as you're traveling!

"My dog is boarding at Wildcat, can you groom them before I pick up?"
Short answer: YES! Just call to schedule ASAP to ensure we have the space :)
Reminder: all of our haircut grooming is booked for the Spring Break time, but we do still have room for baths and nail trims!
Lettuce pray we find him.
