Despite a week of excessive heat and humidity, the 20th Annual Operation S.O.S. (Save Our Streams), had brave volunteers who joined us on Saturday.
Three of those were members of the Rotary Club of Mansfield, who thanks to Dave Crawford who 19 years ago was the special projects coordinator for the Rotary, called and said, we wish to make this one of our projects. So, for 19 years, members of the Rotary have always had volunteers join us.
Special Thanks to those who volunteered their time on a hot muggy Saturday are Melanie Seaman, Dave Crawford, Mike Daily and Maura Teynor.
(and i actually had to tell them after over an hour, it's time to stop, as it's already 86 degrees and it's only 10 a.m.).
We are so very fortunate with the countless volunteers over the years!
Thank you to our volunteers
The cleaning up of litter and debris does not just beautify our downtown, but also keeps the litter from entering our storm drains and emptying into our stream.
Happy Arbor Day!
Did you know that planting trees is one of the best practices for stormwater management?

April 1st, 2024...what a great day and I'm not fooling anyone as today marks the beginning of the 28th Anniversary Earth Stewardship Celebration
Starting today and running through August 1st - the Earth Stewardship Steering Committee invites residents, businesses, churches, schools, non profits, neighborhoods, government entities to join us in Planting Pride in Richland County and conduct a project. What does that mean???
Earth Stewardship participants take before and after photos of their project and submit them by August 4th. Projects ideas: Litter clean up, Beautification, graffiti removal, recycling drive, rain barrel, pollinator gardens, etc.
and the best part - you get to choose the date and location of the project. (and by you choosing the date, if it rains on your first scheduled date, you have time to reschedule it)
Projects are then "judged" by a panel of judges and awards are given to the top 3 places in each category which include: Business, Government, Neighborhood, School, Church/non profit organization
Star Awards will be chosen for each village and city in Richland County that registers a project.
and all volunteers will be entered into a drawing for prizes at our awards ceremony in September.
Over the past 27 years, we have had over 54,000 residents join us in Planting Pride in Richland County. Join your friends and let's make the 28th Anniversary Earth Stewardship Celebration the greatest one to date.
For ideas of projects from previous years, check out our photo albums on the Earth Stewardship Celebration FB page.
Registration is easy - simply go to this link and register your project today. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/13M1LYCuqxPaIBJ2U8gh3XANhRNGSmMNy9Mteelcc-Bc/edit

Have you ever had a concern regarding the environment in Mansfield but wasn’t sure which department to contact?
Well, we have great news to help residents report an Environmental Complaint and it’s at your fingertips and can be filled out and sent with your phone.
The City of Mansfield Engineering Department has developed a great new tool to assist our residents in reporting environmental concerns/complaints regarding Air, Land, Water (lakes, streams, etc.) and drinking water.
The link we are sharing will take you directly to a form to fill out to report an Environmental Complaint. It is very simple to fill out, and you can even attach a photo(s) of what you see/or are concerned about. Your complaint will be sent to the appropriate department so they may begin an investigation to your complaint.
So what do you mean by an Environmental Complaint? The following represent just a couple of examples:
• You’re taking the dog for a walk and notice suds in the street
• You have a neighbor or you may even be visiting a business who is having work completed and you notice that one of the contractors poured something into a catch basin and it didn’t look like water
• Even worse, you see and smell sewer discharge into a stream or coming from someone’s home
• You see a construction site and a lot of dirt/sediment on the road from the site tracking all along the streets.
If you don’t see your specific concern in the drop down list, you can always choose “other” and the describe your complaint.
By clicking on the link – you can immediately submit your complaint and it will be received immediately by the department responsible for investigating your complaint.
You have the option to leave your complaint with your name so we may follow up with you or if needed ask some additional questions to aid in our investigation, or if you wish to make your report anonymously, you may do so as well.
Feel free to click on this link now, to get familiar with it, and make sure to bookmark it for easy reference. https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/9ab93d4bedce4bdc8e5e9c4b89860d5c/
And if you don’t want to bookmark this link now, you can always go to the City of Mansfield’s Website and you will find the link by visiting the Engineering Department’s webpage at: https://ci.mansfield.oh.us/public-works-departments/engineering-department/
Questions, feel free to contact Kim Hildreth, Project Planner at [email protected]
And lastly, make sure to share this information with your friends and neighbors.
