It’s always special when someone returns to their roots.
Thomas Dunn, a Galion native now living in Georgia, has done just that by closing on a new property in his hometown.
After looking at one other property, Tom - with the help of his agent Lori Amicone - settled on the space in Galion. With solid bones, charming architecture and historic details, he was SOLD on the space.
Lori had a great time working with him, saying, "I enjoyed working with Tom and meeting his wife during our search. He's a great businessman with a real vision for this property. I'm really excited to watch how this progresses!"
Tom has BIG plans for this space and we're so thrilled to be a part of his journey. Congratulations on your closing and new adventure!

When Diane’s husband passed away nearly 12 years ago, everyone assumed she would move back home to Australia.
But the life she’d built on 1235 Canteberry Lane, was an incredible one, and Diane wasn’t ready to go.
The Mansfield woman would live in the 4-bed, 3-bath home for a total of 18 years – 7 with her dear husband.
“He already had the home when I met him,” she said. “He bought the home with a lovely lady five years previously and unfortunately she had passed away seven weeks after they moved in from a brain aneurism. It was a fixer upper. There was wallpaper everywhere and he built a tiny patio on the front. We ripped up the s**g carpet. The sunroom was bright apple green and the carpet in the lounge was pink.”
The couple had their work cut out for them, but little by little, they turned the home into their own little paradise.
“In those days, every year, I’d go home to Australia and I’d give him a project while I was gone,” she said. “We just completely overhauled the home.”
Sadly, seven years into their marriage, Diane’s husband got kidney cancer and would pass away 5 months later.
But between the most amazing neighbors, and her stunning home, along with a job she loved, Diane had no plans to leave the life she’d made in the gorgeous Royal Oak neighborhood.
A few years later, Diane began transforming the outside.
“My husband had always said, ‘Diane, you better not cut those hemlocks,’” she said with a chuckle, referring to the beautiful hemlock trees out back. “But I thought, I’m going to cut them so I can sit underneath them. He was always afraid if I cut them, it would ruin them, but I did it and it was lovely. We thought it was nice just sitting in the dirt for the first few years, but then I thought, ‘Stuff this,’ and I cut them up higher and paved for the patio. I got tired of sitting in the mud.”
The patio out back is spectacular. With tiny party lights that she leaves twinkling day and night, the patio is completely hidden from neighbors and Diane carefully tends to her many flowers – front and back – and keeps the patio spotless.
“I love how it’s always cooler out back,” she said. “It’s such a peaceful street anyway and you can always hear the birds. I can’t put a wreath out without birds coming to build a nest. I love my gardens. There’s such wonderful privacy. No one can see me in my hot tub. I can put my music on and sit out there and veg out, and I do it quite a bit. I love to have my friends over. There is plenty of room. I’ve had quite a few parties. It’s wonderful and relaxing out there. I absolutely love my patio.
And the amazing warm feeling one gets out back flows through the entire home.
“I’m a little biased I suppose, but while I love going home to Australia, I’m always breaking my neck to get back here,” she said. “It’s a big home, but it has nice sections and it has everything. I’ve had parties downstairs, too, and a friend can stay down in the basement and they’re completely self contained. There’s a fridge and a coffee pot and an exit outside.”
Diane also loves her big kitchen.
“I cook a lot, so it really suits me,” she said. “And I could never say enough about my neighbors. If you ever need something, they’d do anything for you. Everyone is so kind. Everyone says, ‘Hello’ when they pass. I was injured once for 21 days and each took a turn bringing me dinner – for all 21 days. I love my neighbors so much. I could ring any one of them at 5 a.m. and they would come running.”
When her husband passed away, a previous neighbor handed her a blank check to cover funeral expenses.
“Who does that?” Diane said, still marveling at the memory.
Diane is now preparing to move back to Australia as she said her family needs her, but said the move is incredibly bittersweet.
“I’ll miss everything about this home, my work, my friends and my neighborhood,” she said. “Whoever buys this is going to have the most wonderful home that has been looked after and well cared for. I’ve taken very good care of it. It’s got a new roof – anything that ever happened, I’ve fixed it. I maintained it well.”
Diane has high hopes for the incoming owners.
“I pray a new family comes in and is happy,” she said tearfully. “My life is one little life in a million, but it’s been extremely pleasurable. This is a very happy home and I will miss it very much.”
To see more photos of this home, go to https://slussrealty.com/properties/744-Residential-1235-Canteberry-Lane-Mansfield-Ohio-44906-4-Bedrooms-3-Bathrooms-USD375-000/ then call agent Kelly Stamper at 419-961-8454

Nine children’s beds and mattresses are needed right now.
Today, we went to meet Pamela Milligan, the executive director of the Furniture Bank of North Central Ohio, and learned that her new organization is not only a welcomed need to hundreds of Richland County families, but some are more urgent and the community’s help is vital.
“You can see this room is pretty full right now, but by the end of the week, all of this will mostly be gone,” the Mansfield woman said gesturing around her 7000 square foot building, located on Springmill Street.
The non-profit began operations about two months ago and supplies furniture to those in need through donations and financial support. The need will be forever ongoing and Sluss Realty is proud to share that we will be teaming up with the Furniture Bank to work with our sellers to help provide future furniture and continue generating awareness for the operation.
Right now, Pamela is funding everything from deliveries, to building expenses to meals for her volunteers, out of her personal pocket.
She’s hoping for grants and community support to keep her good work going strong.
Pamela, who was born and raised in Mansfield, has lived everywhere from California to Hawaii to Reno, Nevada, and Washington, and has even served as a General in the US Air Force. When she resided in Reno, she began working with an organization which worked to help refugees and supply them with housing and furniture.
“I put together 11 apartments while I was there,” she said. “The Salvation Amy helped us a lot, and while they didn’t just give us the furniture, they would sell it to us at a very cheap rate. I always had the idea then to take over the furniture part as a separate non-profit.”
Later when she moved to Washington, Pamela learned of a local Furniture Bank, which was doing exactly what she had always wanted – providing furniture to those who needed it.
A few years ago, Pamela and her husband moved back to her hometown and she immediately got to work starting a furniture bank of her own.
Cleveland and Columbus are the two closest cities currently who are providing such a service.
“This is very much needed and we have a lot of referrals coming in,” she said. “I try to never take ripped furniture. We want nice furniture that people can feel proud of. We shampoo everything. We want it to be a good experience for people. Furniture matters. It gives people security and comfort in their own homes. People wouldn’t believe how many apartments I’ve been in where people have literally nothing.”
Pamela shared a study done that showed that those who have been homeless are less likely to return to that state if they get into a fully-furnished residence.
“We also like to take away the initial stress of people trying to find a bed and furniture after they’ve come out of a rough situation,” she said. “People try to give me old j***y furniture and I say, ‘No. If we want people to thrive, we want to give them nice items.’ This is building a stronger Mansfield one household at a time.”
Pamela has had the support of local volunteers from the re-entry program in Mansfield, but hopes to start working with the local prison to have more steady labor. Her volunteers assist with everything from cleaning the furniture to making deliveries.
The Furniture Bank delivers nearly every day. Pamela said the poverty level in Richland County is 15% with levels as high as 25% in Mansfield.
“My intent is to branch into other counties,” she said.
Right now, Pamela works with referrals from organizations like Wayfinders, New Hope, the Domestic Violence Shelters and others.
The organization charges $75 for them to furnish a whole home and $45 for delivery. She said sometimes the referring organization helps pay, but if there are no other options, she has been known to waive the fee.
Her rules for furniture are clean with no stains, rips or pet hair.
“But I’ll break my own rules sometimes because I worry I won’t have enough furniture,” she said.
And they not only deliver, but they will pick up furniture from donors.
“This is a whole community effort,” she said. “Furniture gives people a chance to relax, reflect and regenerate and we are proud to help give people this opportunity.”

The Sluss Realty Story
Sluss Realty Company was established in October 1971, therefore celebrating 46 years of service as a third generation family business. It began with my mother, Marjorie Sluss, originally a nurse at Riverside that decided to obtain her real estate license and my father, Gerald B. Sluss, a World War II Veteran and sales executive for Ralston-Purina. As Marjorie continued to be successful and Gerald’s demand for travel began to increase, they decided to take a risk and open their own brokerage hence began Sluss Realty Company who has not only weathered two tough housing busts but also the loss of its founders. Today, myself with my son Grant are second and third generation brokers who are committed to maintaining the unsurpassed reputation and trust our family has earned in quality service, hard work, and dedication to our customers. We are the leading locally owned real estate sales organization with two offices serving Richland, Crawford, Ashland, Knox, Morrow and Marion Counties.
At Sluss Realty, our highly trained sales associates are skilled negotiators. They will prepare a market analysis to help price your home so you can realize the best return on your investment. Sluss Realty sales professionals are skilled in all types of financing whether it’s residential, commercial or investment. Their main goal is to craft a fair transaction in the least amount of time possible for our clients.
Our staff knows how to guide our clients through what seems like the paper maze of property sales. Each sales associate keeps up-to-date on current practices with ongoing training and informational programs. We cooperate with all Brokers and adhere to all Codes of Ethics in every community we serve. The key to our success is teamwork!
We dominate advertising in North Central Ohio with digital and print advertising. We utilize the power of our exclusive website along with syndicating our listings to nearly a thousand more real estate related websites. Print advertising includes the News Journal, Homefinder.com Magazine, and the Galion Inquirer just to mention a few.
