Not only are Gus’s 3d Printed Holiday trees, vessels, and earrings gorgeous, but he’s also an invaluable volunteer/ artist/ instructor at The MAC! We have a very small team, and were short staffed due to illness this week. Gus helped us hang artwork, set up for the party, and has popped in constantly (in between volunteering at Tiny Tim AND teaching at the library) to offer support. THANK YOU GUS, you rock!! Just dropped off a big batch of pieces to Mansfield Art Center for their Holiday Fair! My local peeps - stop in November 18th through December 24 to see holiday wares from some fabulous local artists! I am honored to be a part of this show!

This is the FINAL CrowFest 2023 post, as we wrap up this wonderful exhibition today 🐦‍⬛

Artist Samantha Schneider’s monumental oil-painting ‘Metanoia’ was the surprise of this show. In fact, Sam painted this work on its side over the course of a few weeks in her basement studio, and the first time that she saw it upright was the moment this photo was taken as she delivered it. The tiny lightning storm, clawed toenails, and gift-bearing crow in this phenomenal self-portrait are astounding. Samantha won Best In Crow for 2023.

•What does Metanoia mean?
Change in one's way of life resulting from penitence or spiritual conversion.
"what she demanded of people was metanoia, repentance, a complete change of heart"

Samantha’s work focuses on transitional phases of life, growth, archetypes, and self-discovery. Mark your calendars for January when Sam brings a solo show to The MAC!

Visitors have truly enjoyed experiencing the swooping, diving, caw-cophony of crows flying in our atrium space. The shadow-play multiplies the effect of movement.

Let’s talk briefly about how art has the power to affect. We had the opportunity to work with a nonverbal visitor with mobility challenges, and share in her joyful experience with this installation. Her eyes followed the shapes and forms, and she was able to use a few brief words to describe her excitement as she smiled. Her support person also smiled and happily said that it was more communication than she had heard in a long time. None of us expected this wonderful experience to be a part of the day, and yet there we were enjoying the installation and talking together. Art is powerful.

Thank you Gus Phillips for all the time that you put into creating this beautiful work. After designing and 3d printing each unique crow, 3 days were spent on a lift installing the geometrically aligned monofilament hanging system (a work of art in itself) to capture the shape of the Murder of crows.
