Author and illustrator visit Cedar Island Elementary School Students at Cedar Island Elementary School recently received a visit from author David LaRochelle and illustrator Mike Wohnoutka. The pair shared about the process of creating the various books they have worked on together, including “See the Dog” and “See the Cat.” ​​​​​​​

4th & 5th grade students participated in the "Potato Project" with Ms. Esper in the Media Center. They picked a toy, researched it, then created their own version of the toy using a potato. The "toys" are on display in the Media Center today and staff will vote on their favorites. The kids truly did a fantastic job! Here's a glimpse...

Classroom Buddies! 💛🐾
Ms. Haugen's 3rd grade class and Ms. Blaukat's Kindergarten class spent time today getting to know eachother. The two classrooms will meet throught the year for reading time and activities.

We know this won't stick, but it's a great reminder to send your students to school with proper winter clothing now! They'll need it for recess every day.
And don't forget to LABEL EVERYTHING!!!

Construction is in FULL FORCE at Cedar Island! A lot of the HVAC work is complete, classroom cabinets are in, and tile work has begun. Here's a glimpse of the progress....

We had a great last day of school yesterday! It was bittersweet sending off our 5th graders, but we know they will do great things in Middle School!

5th Grade students participate in a Friendship Retreat put on by Youth Frontiers and funded by Cedar Island's PTO and the 279 Foundation. Sudents were super engaged and loved the retreat!

over the past few weeks, students have added to their classroom "trees" as part of our Student Identity Project. In the fall, they answered on a "leaf" the question "who am I" and now they are answering the question "who are my people" - for elementary students this tends to be their family.

Recess is never more fun than after a big snowfall!

Our district is moving to eLearning on Wednesday, Feb. 22 and Thursday, Feb. 23 because of heavy snowfall and high winds that the National Weather Service says will extremely impact area roads. This means students, early childhood through grade 12, will stay home and use their school-provided device to learn. Teachers will share further details with families soon.

District programming has been canceled as part of the temporary move to eLearning. This includes Kidstop and Four Star Express programs and all after-school/evening activities.
