My salon studio is named in memory of my late English bulldog, Boss Lady—affectionately known as Bossy. 🐶 Her passing in June 2022 left a profound impact, inspiring me to honor her legacy in a meaningful way.

In July 2023, I launched the Bossy’s Fur Friends (BFF) Raffle on what would have been Bossy's 13th birthday, July 23rd. This annual event supports local pet organizations, celebrating the joy pets bring into our lives. Last year, we raised over $650, thanks to generous contributions from the community and local businesses like Amelia’s Blend, Intentional Nourishment, Flo Jo Photography, Dog House Bar & Grill, Butterfly Design, Dogtopia of Maplewood and Boss Lady Salon.

🙌🏻 This year, we aim to raise AT LEAST $1,000 for MNPets, an organization providing in-home gentle euthanasia services. The compassion and support MNPets offered during Bossy’s final moments were invaluable, and you can learn more about their incredible work here:

Dear Grandma,

As I get ready to walk into the funeral home to do your hair one final time, I’m reminded of the 37 incredible years I had with you, 12 years of which I was doing your hair weekly.

Today will be very hard for me but grandma, I need to do this for both of us. You deserve to look your best for one final see ya later and I couldn’t imagine anyone but me doing that for you.

You are the reason I got the education where I did. You are the one who told me about the new beauty school that just opened in Maplewood and said I should go tour it.

Yet, when your former stylist Lois retired three years into my career, you weren’t too sure that I would be able to handle doing your hair since I was so “young.”
The first time I did your hair I vividly remember when I finished and turned you around you said “Oh, well that looks just like me, I guess you can do it”

From then on, every Friday at 1pm was our time. You followed me all over the place and supported me every step of the way.

Although during haircuts I still often heard, “You’re cutting too much, are you leaving any hair?,” as I was cutting a section I hadn’t even touched yet, it always managed to grow back in abundance with needing shaping again every four weeks.

It was a hard transition for me when you went into assisted living and started getting your hair done there for convenience sake. Obviously it was for the best but that was my job and I didn’t want anyone else doing it for you.

Luckily I had the opportunity to do it every once in awhile, including the first time after lock down.

I have a voicemail from the following day saved on my phone where you are raving about how you felt like yourself again and your hair looks amazing even after sleeping on it, do you remember that? You were so happy and excited.

I really missed doing your hair weekly. I was so grateful for your final haircut we had together at Pillars a few weeks ago. You had a nice time being outside with the sun, the birds chirping, the flowers and the water fountain. It felt amazing for me to do your hair again and the smile on your face when you saw it done is priceless to me. It was one of the most beautiful days I’ve ever had.

Being a hairstylist is so much more than just the hair. The connection between a guest and their hairstylist is a blend of trust, collaboration, and personal rapport. When that guest is you, my grandmother, it’s amplified times 100 and I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.

I’m beyond appreciative to our family for letting me have this honor. Being able to present you to our family and friends one final time, looking just like our spicy little meatball that we all love and adore, is such an invaluable gift to me.

Grandma, thank you for trusting me all these years. Send all your powerful strength my way right now as we have our final salon visit together, until we meet again. I love you beyond words 💕😇

July 23rd is extremely special to me. It was on this day in 2010 that my late bulldog Boss Lady, the salon's namesake, was born. As a memorial to Bossy, I want to honor this day and give back to animals in need. This is a cause near and dear to my heart and I know a lot of you feel the same.

I am hosting an online raffle where you can purchase entries to win some unique items from local small businesses. 100% of the proceeds will go to the Twin Cities animal organization, People and Pets Together.​
