The staggering science and art behind Wimbledon's legendary grass courts 07/10/2024

🎾 Ever wondered about the magic behind Wimbledon's perfect grass?
Neil Stubley, head of courts and horticulture at Wimbledon, reveals that the two-week tournament requires year-round preparation. By the late 1990s, Wimbledon transitioned all the courts to 100% perennial ryegrass for better performance, more durable courts, and a more predictable ball bounce.
And once the championship starts, the work doesn't stop. Neil and his team will conduct nearly 20,000 measurements across 38 courts just during Wimbledon alone.
Fun fact: The grass is kept at precisely 8 millimeters! ✂️🌱
It's a testament to how attention to detail and continuous improvement can create something truly extraordinary. What area in your life could benefit from this level of care?

The staggering science and art behind Wimbledon's legendary grass courts Neil Stubley, head of courts and horticulture at Wimbledon, is responsible for the battlefield that some of the most epic matches in tennis lore have ever been played on.

We would like to wish a big congratulations to Dennis on his Retirement!! To honor Dennis, we would like to share a little bit of his life with you.

Dennis is originally from Oregon. His first job was helping his dad as a drywall contractor through high school and college.

One of his favorite things to do as a young adult was visiting his uncle in Kansas who got him hooked on airplanes. At 19, Dennis got a job at an airline company he had never heard of. Today, we know that airline company as Delta Airlines.

He met his wife in Chicago where she was training to be a flight attendant for Delta. Dennis and Beverly got married in 1968, they went on to have 3 wonderful daughters and 6 grandkids.

He worked for Delta for 33 ½ years before retiring. During those years he had various jobs, some of which were fueling airplanes, working the reservation counter, red coat agent, and counter control.

In 2005 he started working for Cumberland Financial Group in the accounting department after meeting Rick at a networking event. He has been a great colleague, mentor, and friend to all of those who have had the pleasure to work with him.

19 years later, he is retiring (from his second career), and we are so excited for him to take on this next adventure! Join us in wishing Dennis a wonderful retirement or share a memory you may have of him.
