Felt great to do this quick project. šŸ› ļø Quick. Simple. Satisfying.

A quick project for the books. I had some small olive slab boards that I didnā€™t know what to do with. A recent love for trying different whiskies, an idea, an excruciating decision of which glasses to use, and a new forester bit laterā€¦. Twin flight trays. These two have homes but Iā€™d be happy to make more.

It had been way too long since Iā€™d been in my shop working on something. But these beautiful olive wood shavings brought me right back to all the warm fuzzy feelings I get when I love what I do.

Edit: this project was back in February. For some reason the Instagram share didnā€™t link to my page so I had to reshare now to make sure it showed up here as well. Iā€™m so excited to get my hands back into Phoenix Dust now that the kiddos are in school ā¤ļø

Tada! Finally finished this one. So excited to have this one wrapped up. From the moment we walked in our house this odd spot with no lower cabinet was always going to be turned into this. Itā€™s so nice to finally see it there- and I DID IT! šŸ™ŒšŸ¼ of course, it came with pains and a few breakdowns but it turned out. šŸ„°M

Tried to learn a new skill this past week and it didnā€™t go so well. So, I just turned it into two small boards. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

These were actually the first thing I built since moving. Step stools for the boys so they can enjoy their *double sinks* in their bathroom. šŸ™ŒšŸ¼ I actually still have the wood cut for 2 more of these to build and place around the house. I just havenā€™t gotten to them since these two were really the ones that were essential.

I am having to retype this one, thanks Instagram.

These are my laundry room builds. I still have one more small project for this space thatā€™s on ā€œmy to do listā€. The pedestal is a irreplaceable addition. It was the first time I ripped off baseboards to truly create a built in piece. I still have plans for some trim work and caulking. I couldnā€™t have done the very tricky gas exhaust and water/ power hookups without my husband. But once we got it all in, it has been amazing. I now have baskets underneath for dirty clothes sorting.

On the other side of the room is the basket sorting / folding table. Each person in the house has a basket +1 for linens. It makes the logistics of family of 5 laundry so much easier and then folding space keeps me from having to lug mounds of clothes upstairs to fold (after left on a chair or bench for 7-10 business days). Again, still needs to be finished with trim and caulk but itā€™s functioning as intended (and the boys can more easily be held accountable for their clothes).

Win. Win.

When we decided to make our main basement space a ā€œplay roomā€ I knew that we needed some sort of space in the room that wasnā€™t just chaos (because isnā€™t that what playrooms are?). We created our Lego space. If you have known me for a couple of years, legos are huge in our home and there are a lot of them, everywhere. So, I wanted shelves for Lego creations to go so they donā€™t get smashed and destroyed. Iā€™m sure the shelves will be used for that and some storage too (maybe hidden space for toy time out too).

Plenty of shaping and filling work to do on these still. Probably paint as well. For now, they work and I think they just really make that space wonderfully useable.

This picture show next to nothing about what was done here šŸ˜… but it was one of the projects Iā€™m most proud of. When we bought this house I knew I wanted to put French doors here. Luckily enough, the dining room had glass doors and I hated the idea that the dining room had door. So, I decided Iā€™d take the doors from each side of the dining room and put them onto this frame. I got a little intimidated when researching hanging French doors. It was quite some work ESPECIALLY when realizing the two doors were the slightest bit different. So, making two different doors to be French doors?!? What was I thinking? But I did it. And they function. And I learned installing ball latches.

My local hardware store keeps going out of stock of the remaining one piece of trim I need for the door stop so it also still has work before Iā€™ll call it completed. But it works and makes the room way more private which was the goal. (We also are putting window film on the glass to give more privacy as well). The room will be a flex space that works as a guest bedroom for our visitors that feel more comfortable not needing to climb the stairs.

This was a custom office printer table build. I was nervous about painting it black but I ended up loving it. It looked very handsome.
This build taught me a lot. There were MANY mistakes and I wanted to scrap the whole thing a few times. It turned out nicely though. Furniture pieces always feel nice. They are seen and used often. I love something functional! šŸ‘šŸ¼ you can get all artsy as you want but I find joy in things that function or fulfill a need.

Iā€™ve been struggling lately with Phoenix Dust. I first got super overwhelmed in the logistics of moving the business from CA to GA (which still needs to be done). Then I wondered if I even should. I was making and selling in CA but since moving itā€™s like Iā€™ve been, eh, stale. Trying to get my new shop space to feel like home has been harder than I thought. Iā€™m constantly fumbling and losing things. I get frustrated spending more time finding and fixing than building and creating. I have to keep reminding myself that we have only been in our new place for almost 3 months now. My shop was packed up over a month before that. So I have taken some time to look back on all the builds I have done since being here. Most have been home improvement type of projects. Some were gifts for the holidays. I also looked back on what I was doing a year ago. A year ago I had barely even learned what most power tools did?! I didnā€™t understand about wood movement. I have learned so much and have so much to learn.

So, I want to share some of the things I have been doing. I havenā€™t posted much because I felt like the projects werenā€™t finished. I havenā€™t finished a lot of trim work, caulking, finishing. But I wanted to share nonetheles, if nothing else, to remind myself that Iā€™m not stagnant, Iā€™m just transitioning.

Wondering why my IG seemed to come to a screeching halt? Iā€™ve been BUSY but in a whole new way! The shop is mostly shut down for now and being prepared for a cross country move next month. Excited for all the opportunity awaiting Phoenix Dust Creations in the Atlanta GA area!

So excited to share this big build I just finished up! I got a lot of joy towards the end of this one realizing I was actually making a awesome piece of furniture almost exactly like I wanted it. I learned so much and hope that someone else local will want me to build them one (or something similar) too so I can make the next one ever better! Whoā€™s first?
