Obstacle courses are a great activity to work on sequencing, counting, balance, coordination and other gross motor skills. It doesn’t hurt when they’re outside on a beautiful spring day!

Spring has exploded in our preschool garden!

From planting carrots, green beans and tomatoes in our raised planting bed to surrounding our beautiful new Mary statue with Easter lilies, the children have been loving getting their hands in the dirt and extra fresh air in their lungs.

They’re fascinated to see how quickly the plants make their way up or to find a garden snail who turned up. 🌱🐌 Pre-K is even trying an experiment planting a small patch of pumpkins and melons. We’re excited to see what happens!

Mary always points us closer to her Son, Jesus. What a joy to honor the Mother of God last week with May Crowning. Our 18 months, twos and threes classes filled vases with freshly clipped blooms from our wildflower garden, and Pre-K gave her a crown of flowers. It was such a joy to have parents and siblings with us as we sang and the children played their instruments along with some well-loved Marian music. 🌸🙏🌼🌷💒

Families, thank you again for a beautiful Teacher Appreciation Week. The staff was so touched by all your kind words, delicious food and special touches for the luncheon Friday! 🐝 And on top of all the sweet notes, candy, gift cards and flowers throughout the week! We are grateful for your kindness and generosity, and most of all for the gift of working with your children and families.

The spring is such an exciting time for Pre-K with lots of special moments putting the final touches on their preparation for Kindergarten. Cafeteria Day was a fun success!

We heard confident young voices making their food choices, using their manners, and sharing their first and last name at “checkout.” We watched them balance a tray of food, pray over it, try new things, and clean up after themselves. A new adventure is coming, and they’re just about ready to take flight - hooray for Pre-K!

What do you do when you find a huge grasshopper out on the courtyard? 🤔 Create an impromptu science lesson, of course!

Getting to see an American Grasshopper up close was fascinating! We talked about how they use their powerful back legs (2 of 6!) to hop far and can make a fiddling sound with their legs and wings. We learned how they use their antennas to smell and feel, hear through their sides, and have a hard exoskeleton on the outside - unlike how humans have their bones on the inside! What fun fact was your child’s favorite? 💡

Hooray for surprise learning opportunities!

What a blessing to see Pre-K parents come together over coffee to share wisdom and questions in this peer-led session for rising Kindergarten families about what to expect next year. Companionship with others who “get”where you’re at is so important when parenting young children.

The children are almost ready for their next step, and thanks to the strength of community, their parents have a leg up on what’s ahead when they get there. 👍

Our interactive Resurrection lesson completes the story that began with Jesus’ Passion and and ties it together allowing the children to experience the wondering of where Jesus went and then the great joy of proclaiming the news that He has risen - alleluia! 🙌

Our 2-year-olds always have the special job of helping to create the “tomb” for our story by making the playdough “rocks” that cover it. Each child has a chance to “go to sleep sad” on Good Friday, help wrap the white cloth, and peek inside the tomb - curiosity at its best!

Each year, our Lenten journey includes a gentle, age-appropriate walk along the Way of the Cross with Jesus. ✝️

At each station, the children receive a symbol, and we pray along with a short meditation. We think about the hard things Jesus did because of his great love for us and always remember the story’s happy ending of the Resurrection. We’re getting our hearts ready for Easter! 🕊

Howdy, pardners! 🤠 The cowpokes had a great Wild West Week down on the ponderosa this month. It wouldn’t be the rodeo without hobby horses, lots of galloping, feeding and watering our trusty steeds, rodeo tricks in the ring, and Western wear. Yeehaw!🐴🌵🏜️

Wow, Holy Family - parish and preschool - we asked and you answered! Thanks to your generous donations and some wonderful volunteers, we were able to make 220 blessing bags for homeless in our community. 🙌

Families could take some to put in their cars, and most were donated to two local service organizations who work with the homeless population in our community. We also were able to provide 4 large boxes of additional non-perishable snacks and warm socks!

Each day for the last week of the donation drive, our Pre-K students did a fantastic job of sorting the donations to help prepare for Saturday’s morning of service, when children and their families came together with staff to assemble the bags.

220 bags 🕊️ 46 volunteer hours 🕊️ 4 more boxes of supplies 🕊️ helping 2 service organizations

This was a great opportunity for young children to engage in an age-appropriate work of mercy and service activity for Lent along with our whole community. A huge thank you to all the parishioners and preschool families who donated materials or their time to help those in need!

St. Patrick’s Day is a great opportunity to learn about the inspiring life of a wonderful saint and to dance and experience another type of music. The Virginia reel and line dancing was a great way to work on coordination, listening, cooperation, rhythm and more.

A few leprechauns might have caused some mischief in Pre-K and managed to avoid the traps the students set for them too (a good STEM challenge)! ☘️💚

Water makes life possible! This month we learned about where it comes from, what we use it for, and how the water cycle works. We introduced the concept by reading Water, a beautifully illustrated book by Frank Asch. We then experimented with the three states of water: liquid, solid and gas. Every child made a "Water Cycle Bag" that is hanging in their classroom to observe.

The lesson ended with a fun M&M experiment. How long does it take to dissolve the sugar coating and make a beautiful rainbow? Not very!

We’re excited to bring back the Lenten service project we started last year. Your families are warmly invited to donate needed items and/or join us for a Morning of Service at Holy Family. We hope to assemble 300+ “Blessing Bags” to be distributed to homeless in our community.

Fr. Jaime and Deacon Jim offered such a lovely prayer service for the children on Ash Wednesday. In simple, age-appropriate language for the little ones, they ushered in the season of Lent for the preschool, welcoming the children, teachers and even some parents and siblings to receive their ashes as a community. ✝️

During Catechesis of the Good Shepherd this week, the children explored the Parable of the Mustard Seed. They were fascinated to see and feel just how small a mustard seed really is!

“…if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” - Matthew 17:20 🙏

Spreading a little bit of God’s love this month with a delivery of homemade Valentines to seniors at a nearby retirement home. 💕

Laughter, cheering, trying new things and some friendly competitive spirit made for a great time on the obstacle course today!
