In the College of Architecture and Construction Management (CACM) the percentage of women studying architecture is significantly higher than the percentage of women architects, a field long made up mostly of men.

You can read more about how the women in our department are making a difference both at KSU and helping the future generation of architects!

LECTURE:
Transformation of Urban Form in Coastal Cities of Greece
Date: April 15, 2022
Time: 2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Please join us for the Transformation of Urban Form in Coastal Cities of Greece presentation by Dr. Shpuza.

Location: The Pit, Building N, Department of Architecture, Marietta Campus

Coastal cities in Greece are studied as they transformed over time from their ancient and Byzantine origins, by adopting Venetian and Ottoman influences to undergoing Napoleonic planning interventions after the independence in 1829. The study of urban morphology in the Ionian and Aegean littoral is focused on street patterns, which have resulted from the dynamic balance between socio-cultural effects and the constraints of coastal terrains. The presentation brings together Dr. Shpuza’s ongoing research on coastal cities with student work developed as part of the Year of Greece initiatives at the Department of Architecture KSU.

All are welcome.

Conventions 03/30/2022

Some great news from the ACI Spring Convention!!!

3rd place in the “Research in Progress” Poster Competition goes to our undergraduate students (Moritz Meditz (arch) Hanny Marone (arch) along with Sean Sadler (civil).

The team, led by architecture associate professor, Gio Loreto, was the ONLY undergraduate team competing with graduate students and PhD students from all over the country. (They were also the only team that included architecture students in this civil engineering competition!)

The students presented their research work as part of the VIP/Re-forming concrete project. For more information, visit this site.

https://research.kennesaw.edu/our/vip/teams/concrete-formwork.php

Conventions ACI conducts two Concrete Convention and Exposition events each year: one in the spring and one in the fall. Sites of the ACI conventions vary throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Announcement and Philosophy 03/17/2022

Diébédo Francis Kéré receives the 2022 Pritzker Architecture Prize

“In a world in crisis, amidst changing values and generations, he reminds us of what has been, and will undoubtably continue to be a cornerstone of architectural practice: a sense of community and narrative quality, which he himself is so able to recount with compassion and pride. In this he provides a narrative in which architecture can become a source of continued and lasting happiness and joy.”
