Cook Vision Therapy Center Inc.
At Cook Vision Therapy Center we focus our services to vision therapy and vision therapy evaluation
At Cook Vision Therapy Center we learn to see head to toe.
Using parquetry blocks to work on perceptual skills 👀 One of the first steps for building perceptual skills with parquetry blocks is asking the patient to identify the shapes and then recreate the image using the appropriate blocks. Over time, we will ask the patient to work on visualizing the shapes and recreate it from memory after flashing the image 🧠 Vision therapy helps children comfortably see AND understand what they’re seeing 🔆 Parquetry blocks, and other activities that work on perceptual skills, can help with handwriting, spelling, attention, and memory.
We love hearing your success stories! 😊 Here's one from the parent of a recent graduate. Many of our patients have similar struggles with reading, writing, and comfortably focusing the eyes. We are so happy we could help.
Congratulations to our July grads! Our patients have all worked so hard to accomplish their individualized vision goals. 🌟🌟🌟

This past week Dr. Cook spoke with parents of the Woodstock Classical Conversations community about the importance of vision and eye-hand coordination in all types of learning.
Wishing you and your loved ones a Happy Fourth of July from everyone at Cook Vision Therapy Center!
Happy faces from our June graduates! Congratulations on accomplishing your goals.
One of our patients doing her vision therapy homework from across the world. She recently got back from visiting India and wanted to show us how hard she worked while away. Awesome job!
On Saturday, Dr. Cook spoke to parents in the Rockmart Classical Conversations community about focusing the eyes and eye-hand coordination. We work with many children who struggle to use their eyes together. This can cause problems with reading, doing homework, or catching a ball.
'The eye is an extruded part of the brain, drawing whatever it can of the outer world in through the retina to be transformed into neural images.'

Dr. Cook spoke to the Israel chapter of College of Optometrists in Vision Development. He explained how to effectively use vectograms in vision therapy. Vectograms use polarized light to allow each eye to see a different target. They encourage binocular vision, depth perception, and spatial awareness. We use vectograms every day with our patients to help them learn how to use central and peripheral vision together.
Check out all the happy faces of our May graduates! 🎉 We had an amazing time working with each of our patients to accomplish their individual goals that were set at the beginning of our program. At Cook Vision Therapy, our doctors tailor the therapy program to the person 🔆

'Free, unsupervised play has been dramatically reduced, not enabling children to learn essential skills which we are programmed to learn through the experiences and challenges of unsupervised play with peers.'

In the first 12 years, 80% of learning comes through the eyes. If your bright child has been struggling at school, avoids reading but enjoys being read to, 15 minutes of homework takes hours to get done or has been complaining about headaches, sore eyes & tiredness, especially since entering grade 2 or 3 requiring more paragraph reading with smaller letter size and less space between lines, the issue could be with their eyes. Schedule a comprehensive visual assessment by calling 770-419-0400 or visit CookVisionTherapy.com for more information.

The Munker-White illusion works because "our acuity for shape is better than our acuity for color, which means that we perceive the shapes with more detail and the colors with less detail," according to David Novick, the creator of the image and a professor of engineering education and leadership at the University of Texas at El Paso.

The YouTube video talks about one's journey toward seeing in 3D.
Vision is our most complex sense, yet one we take most for granted. As many of the symptoms of vision disorders, ironically, tend to be invisible and not evidently eye-related, even individuals, both children and adults, who experience them are likely not even aware of having them. They just seem to be more clumsy, not able to catch a ball, tire easily when reading or not have any energy left after a workday spent on the computer, not able to sit still for long or diagnosed as ADHD, have a harder time learning or just more 'stupid' or 'lazy' than their peers...
In 2016 Dr. Cook published an easy-to-read, yet comprehensive book, 'When Your Child Struggles', about vision and vision issues beyond the 20/20. Through many reprints since, the book continues to be an invaluable resource and guide for parents, schools, pediatricians, occupational therapists, optometrists and other professionals. For more information about the book, call 770-419-0400 or visit CookVisionTherapy.com.

Visual acuity describes the sharpness of sight, especially the ability to discern small details. This is the visual ability that is primarily tested to determine whether or not glasses are needed. An individual may be assessed as having 20/20 vision or be prescribed glasses to give them the 20/20 sight, however, there are 16 other visual abilities which impact reading, learning, comprehension, movement and even behavior, among others, that have not been evaluated. Call 770-419-0400 to schedule a comprehensive visual assessment or visit CookVisionTherapy.com for more information.
'Chromostereopsis is a visual illusion whereby the impression of depth is conveyed in two-dimensional color images, usually of red–blue or red–green colors, but can also be perceived with red–grey or blue–grey images.'
