Join WABA Saturday, May 4th for a leisurely ride as the flowers bloom and the air fills with the scents of spring! On the 20 mile Petals & Pedals Route, stop at six flower gardens across the city and in Northern Virginia to admire blossoms and soak in the season’s beauty; or check out the Floral Library on the National Mall on the 3 mile out-and-back Blossom Expedition perfect for kids and families. Both routes start and end at Franklin Park, and registration includes a picnic lunch, chilled drinks, and delectable desserts. Proceeds benefit the Washington Area Bicyclist Association!

“I began my cycling story as a young bmx riding teenager of the 90s working in a local bike shop. I was the local kid who the bike shop employees were always having the “deal with” as I was fixing flats and working on my own bike and always asking the shop a million questions. I was drawn by the smell of rubber tires and bike grease and allure of mountain bike racing of the mid 90s bike racing. 

“Later on in college I lived in SF and I used the a track bike to get to class and found myself working once again in a bicycle store. I got done with my art degree in art and design. I got a gig working at Specialized Bikes in their industrial design department and after a few years, I found myself working in bicycle retail at Mike’s Bikes and knew there was no escaping the connection I had with customers and how much I missed it. I’ve been doing it ever since and cannot wait for my next chapter here at Contes. Let’s roll!”

Our new friend, Luis messaged us with an urgent request. He was driving down from Connecticut to race at the Bryan Park Crit in Richmond and needed a quick fix on his bike. Our crew in Richmond got him all sorted out and he made it to his race on-time and finished on the podium!
