There are so many benefits to brushing your teeth everyday! It is so important for strong oral hygiene. It helps to remove food particles that are hiding in between your teeth, removes plaque from your teeth and gum line, prevents cavities, prevents gum diseases, and helps make your breath smell fresh!

Brushing your teeth twice a day for 20 minutes helps to remove plaque and food built up on your teeth. Plaque holds a lot of bacteria which can cause gum diseases, tooth decay, and more. Studies have shown that brushing your teeth for 2-3 minutes removes about 41% of plaque! We want to make sure we are brushing our teeth for the right amount of time everyday in order to make sure we are staying healthy!

3. B
Drinking sugary drinks like soda or juice before bed can be bad for your blood sugar and lead to a lot of health risks. It can also affect your sleep cycle and interfere with your quality of sleep. We want to make sure our little ones are getting all the rest their bodies need, so let’s stick to water before bedtime!

Caramel sticks to your teeth for long periods of time which allows for bacteria to grow more and more. This is true of sugary foods which can cause damage to your teeth! So, what foods are good for healthy teeth? Yogurt, spinach, broccoli, salmon, meat, etc!

Most people do have 20 baby teeth!

Getting your child to brush their teeth can be hard sometimes! But it doesn’t have to be if we can get creative and find ways to get them feeling motivated and excited! 🥳

What are some ways we can encourage our children to brush their teeth?

1. Make it into a game:
Brushing your teeth doesn’t have to be boring. We can make it more interesting if we incorporate some game into it so that your child actually has fun while brushing. Get creative! Tell your child that the toothbrush is a rocket ship, or a sword, or a magic wand! 💙

2. Sing a song or play a song:
This is another great way to make brushing more exciting. Sing their favorite song or play it for them! This can also serve as a teaching tool for how long they should be brushing their teeth! 💙

3. Tell them a story:
Tell your child a fun and entertaining story to keep them engaged and happy while they are brushing, or even read them a short story from their favorite kids book! 💙

4. Let them choose their own toothbrush or decorate their own toothbrush:
Choosing/decorating your own toothbrush can not only be a fun activity for the child, but will also get them excited to use something that they chose/designed! Let your child choose the color or design of their toothbrush, or even get some stickers for them to decorate it! 💙

5. Brush your teeth with them:
Brushing your own teeth with your child has so many benefits! First, because your child looks up to you, they will want to mimic your behaviors and habits. Second, it will help to develop a consistent routine for both of you. Finally, it is great bonding time for you and your child! 💙
