In Tai Chi/Qi Gong we practice horse stance and crane stance trying to achieve our goal of 2 minutes rounds. The overwhelming benefits that athletes are gaining from imiplementing this over 5000 year tradition in Tai Chi/Qi Gong are astonishing. I am doing most of these core exercises from an elevated surface. If you don't have a weight bench handy, you can use any elevated, sturdy, safe bench or even use the edge of your bed. Hip flexors, back and quads will be accessory muscles used as well. Strong core is crucial in excellent balance! It's always about quality of life:)

You need a chair, dumbbells, resistance band or hand towel and plant yourself near the wall for this 12-minute workout. (with the transitions, may last an extra minute, but don't "dilly dally") I repeat the workout twice in this demo for a little more challenge. You can repeat as many times as you have time to complete to make this a challenge for you. Strength, mobility, circulation and overall toning will be your results when you repeat this workout at least three times per week. It's always about quality of life!

We are celebrating our August Volunteer of the Month, Bonnie Hutchins! Bonnie volunteers at Employee Health and Education Services every other Monday and Tuesday, Volunteer Services, Friends of Selby, and special projects and events throughout the year. Bonnie has been volunteering since May 2021 and currently has 617 volunteer service hours.

This week I am showing you how to sit in a sturdy chair and improve your upper body strength and mobility. It's not just about shaping those arms or legs, it's about improving range of motion, maintaining upper body strength or creating upper body strength we have lost. If you fall or if you have lowered yourself to the floor you must have the ability to pull yourself up. Without strength and flexibility you will not be able to do that. These are such simple movements to help you maintain or regain quality of life and reduce your fear of falling!

Our Story
Marietta Memorial Hospital Corp. was formed in 1921 by a group of local citizens who saw a need for a large, centralized health care center in the community. The undertaking would be a memorial to Washington County residents who lost their lives in World War I, these pioneers decided. A massive community fundraising and organizational campaign came to fruition when, on July 9, 1929, the hospital admitted its first patient.
Marietta Memorial has responded through the years to the changing needs of the region, adding to its structure and services to meet the health care expectations of its patients. Today, the hospital and its affiliates offer a lifetime of care.

Memorial Health System has two Physicians Care Express locations, one in Belpre at 807 Farson Street and one in Marietta at 800 Pike Street.
