This gentleman's rhetoric has been thrown my way a number of times recently. A family that decided to stop vaccinating cited "all the evidence," and then sent me a video of him talking about vaccines as proof that MMR causes autism. A lot of people unfortunately listen to him.

Additionally: Here's some common sense: If you want vaccine advice, you don't got to a lawyer who spews nonsense, you go to a pediatrician. As a matter of fact, if you want vaccine advice, you don't go to a lawyer at all. Would you ask ME to represent you in court?

Here's a scientist who explains, very clearly, why all the holes in his logic aren't just caused by worms.

What you can learn about salmon from its packaging 25/07/2024

This article is a simple summary of how to pick pretty good salmon. What it doesn't go into in detail, besides fat content, are the nutritional differences between wild caught and farmed. Nevertheless, I think it's a reasonable guide.

What you can learn about salmon from its packaging What do all those labels mean? We examined more than a dozen salmon packages and talked to experts to find out.

Look for these 9 red flags to identify food that is ultra-processed 02/01/2024

This is a pretty good article discussing processed and unhealthy foods. Here's my one comment on what they've written regarding the following sentence: "Minimally processed foods come from plants or animals with minimal alteration. Think whole grains, vegetables, eggs, milk and meat."

Chickens are fed grain (not a natural food for them), kept in cages, fed things to make them bigger, genetically altered to make them grow faster, etc.. The grain is genetically modified and covered in the active ingredient in Roundup (glyphosate), and there's more and more evidence that glyphosate is associated with cancers, autism, parkinson's disease, ADHD, and celiac disease. When you feed an animal food it doesn't eat naturally, it alters the nutritional content (and the taste) of the animal's meat. Further, it alters the nutritional makeup of the eggs as well. A natural egg contains and omega 6/omega 3 ration of roughly 2:1. In typical supermarket eggs, the ratio is 20:1, turning a beautiful, healthful egg into an inflammatory mess. Look for free range (NOT cage-free) eggs. Those chickens are walking around a yard pecking at things, and are considerably less alterered. Cage free only means the chickens aren't in cages. Instead, there are thousands of chickens pooping all over each other in a warehouse.

Cow products (beef and milk) are from cows that are kept confined and also eat genetically modified grains covered in glyphosate. The natural diet of a cow is grasses and legumes (clover). Once again, change what you feed the animal and you change the products that animal produces. Supermarket beef has increased fat, chemicals contained in the feed, and an altered flavor. The milk contains an altered protein, antibiotics, bovine growth hormone, and white blood cells that spoil the milk. The industry statement that organic milk is the same is a flat lie. The expiration time of conventional milk is 5-7 days; the expiration time of organic milk is 6 weeks. Don't believe that? Go to the supermarket and look at the dates yourself.

Look for these 9 red flags to identify food that is ultra-processed Ultra-processed foods have been linked with a litany of health problems. Here’s a guide for identifying them.

Parents of children sickened by lead linked to tainted fruit pouches fear for kids' future 21/12/2023

https://apnews.com/article/wanabana-apple-cinnamon-lead-poisoning-fruit-pouch-86c32266e010843d0c9ad3340ccae319

This is another article about toxic substances in foods aimed at children and babies. All my patients hear from me endlessly about all this stuff, and I'm sure some are sick of hearing it. But I love your kids... all of them... and I simply don't want anything like what's described in this article to happen to any kids.

Look, we all work hard. There are time when we all NEED things for our families that are readily accessible, inexpensive, and that our kids will eat. But in my humble opinion, nothing is worth damaging a child's future and potential. Lead poisoning will lower IQ and change behavior. And to a large extent it doesn't seem to go away as they age. So find other ways that work for you. Here's a pouch-replacement suggestion: Try pureeing your own fruits, then putting them in snack-size freezer bags. You could probably get between 10 and 20 toddler-size servings from one filling of a food processor, and YOU are in total control of what goes into your kids food! You can even add your own cinnamon -- just like in the pouches, but healthy!

Happy holidays to everyone!

Dr Levey

Parents of children sickened by lead linked to tainted fruit pouches fear for kids' future The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports at least 205 confirmed, probable or suspected cases from 33 states.

A child loved cinnamon applesauce. Then he got lead poisoning. 29/11/2023

The presence of arsenic, lead, cadmium, and mercury in baby food has been known for years. That's why we at Greentree recommend not using baby foods at all. The easiest thing to do, and the least expensive, is to give your babies what you're eating already... especially if you already eat a good diet. If it's mush, they can eat it. If you have a food processor and can puree it, they can eat it. Remember, for most of human history baby food jars and pouches didn't exist, and somehow babies managed to grow up without it. Those things were unnecessary then, and they are unnecessary, and often unhealthy, now.

A child loved cinnamon applesauce. Then he got lead poisoning. A Maryland toddler is among the children who developed lead poisoning suspected to be caused by recalled applesauce pouches.

With warm weather comes the return of mosquitos and biting flies that can make your children miserable and cause serious illnesses. AAP recommends using an insect repellent product that has been registered by the Environmental Protection Agency.

Several insect repellents with DEET are approved as safe and effective so weigh the risks of illnesses spread by insects and the possible risk of absorbing chemicals into the body before using them on your child. Talk with your pediatrician if you have questions and visit AAP’s parenting website Healthy Children for more tips: https://www.healthychildren.org/English/safety-prevention/at-play/Pages/Insect-Repellents.aspx
