Community partners gathered to celebrate the re-opening of LaCombe Baseball Field in Negaunee. SAIL partnered with the City of Negaunee in March of 2023 to complete a design review of the project as supporting documentation for a Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) grant application. Accessibility improvements implemented at LaCombe field included ramp access to the concession and restroom building and accessible seating next to the home plate bleachers. This partnership has helped make LaCombe Field a more accessible and inclusive space for all to enjoy. If your business or municipality has a project that you would like accessibility feedback on, reach out to the accessibility services team at SAIL at (906)-228-5744.

Accessible thing of the month time!

Let's look at an access aisle.

What is an access aisle and why should they be left open?

The access aisle is the portion of the accessible parking space that should be striped or otherwise marked. This portion of the parking space should remain open to allow room to enter and exit the vehicle. Access aisles serving car and van parking spaces should be 60 inches or 5 feet wide minimum and should run the full length of the parking space. The access aisle in the photo is marked by a "no parking sign" and is striped on the ground.

Image description begins: In an outdoor parking lot, a red car is parked in an accessible parking space marked with the international symbol of accessibility. The parking space has a white-striped access aisle. Image description ends.
