Meet Tim Brock, our Director of Plant Operations-Engineering at Forrest Health. Earlier this year, Tim found himself needing life-saving blood due to a rare condition. Thanks to the tireless efforts of The Blood Center, we were able to find the blood with the exact antibodies he needed. Without it, Tim’s story might have been very different.

At Forrest General, we use over 1,000 blood products monthly for trauma patients, heart surgeries, emergency procedures, and more. The Blood Center plays a critical role in keeping our community supplied with the blood we need. Blood donated here stays here to help our friends, family, and neighbors in the Hattiesburg area.

Meet three remarkable brothers who have been selflessly donating blood for over 40 years! 🩸 Their dedication to our community is immeasurable, and while we may have lost track of their exact number of donations due to records lost in Hurricane Katrina, we know their impact is huge.

Beyond their life-saving contributions, these gentlemen are pillars of the LaPlace community. They work hand-in-hand with local organizations, and Mr. Mike Brady, in particular, has been known for cooking meals for Shell Norco's blood drives for decades. 🍽️💪

We were honored to present them with a special award for their years of service and community spirit. Thank you for all you do! 🙏

As a member of the Blood Emergency Readiness Corps (BERC), a coalition of 35 blood centers all over the United States that collects blood on a rotating schedule, The Blood Center stays on alert during natural disasters to respond should any critical blood shortages occur. Having blood ready can prove lifesaving for disaster zones during dangerous weather, such as what is expected from Hurricane Helene in Florida. Donate blood now so we can be on ready to help out neighbors, as they have helped us in the past.

Did you know that O-negative blood is incredibly rare, with only 6% of people having this type? O Negative is the universal donor, making it the safest for children and babies in need of lifesaving transfusions. Right now, we have a baby locally on an ECMO life-support machine who is using O-negative blood. Plus, we’ve had a surge of local patients requiring massive transfusions, increasing the need for Type O+Positive donors too. Help us save lives and ensure our hospitals have the blood supplies they need! 🩸

He required 2.5 years of chemotherapy and other treatments, including many blood and platelet transfusions. Yesterday, with a HUGE beaming smile, surrounded by family, friends, his hospital team, and even the Tulane football team, he rang the "No Mo' Chemo!" bell, ringing in his cancer-free future. 🔔

Abron and his family encourage anyone who is able to donate blood so more kids like Abron can have the chance to live a cancer-free life. 🎗️
