Congratulations Nadirah on your graduation from HACCC's Family Self Sufficiency Program! Thank you for all of your hard work and we wish you the best moving forward!

“Being a housing choice participant has been a blessing in disguise. I was able to utilize the housing program to my advantage to provide a better life for my family. The program gave me the freedom to work part time which allowed me to earn a master’s degree to gain a rewarding career, while still being able to provide stable housing for my family. In term of the FSS program, there is not enough words to express my gratitude. The program helped me strive for something much more than I could imagine. The program guided me on a path for self-sufficiency, by encouraging me and given me the needed tools to seek job promotions for newfound wealth. The program helped me lay out a foundation for my new journey, by helping me to set reasonable and achievable goals, setting reasonable deadlines, providing money management and providing a monthly reinforcement once I received a work promotion. With a new path laid out and a new take on what my life could be, I went from making $15,000-$20,000 a year to an $80,000+ salary.
Now! We all know the saying “more money, more problems.” Lol. Well, that was not the case with the help of the FSS program. The program provided a free money management counselor who helped me look at my income as a whole and address my wants versus my needs, but still allowing a little wiggle room to spend money on myself here and there. The counselor was able to help me see money I was wasting on unnecessary things and that money was now applied to paying down my debt to achieve home ownership one day.
Then before I knew it, I was told I could graduate, I have achieved my goals, but I still was not ready lol. I put it off for some time because the thought of leaving the program was frightening and I did not think I was ready. But then it hit me, this was the moment I have been working for and the moment others who helped me in my journey work so hard for and I decided to take a leap of faith and take my newfound wealth, new and approved credit all the training from the home ownership classes and apply for my very own home.
With the grace of God and the help of the FSS program, I’m now able to take my $15,000 check I received from graduating and apply it to my family’s brand-new home, us being the 1st owner in the fall. So, I say to everyone, take a leap of faith and trust the FSS program to help you achieve your dreams!”
-Nadirah, 2021 Family Self-Sufficiency Graduate
______________________________
Congratulations to our most recent graduate, Nadirah!
Nadirah joined the Family Self-Sufficiency Program in 2017 with the final goal of gaining a promotion and improving her credit and debt management.
Not only did Nadirah gain a promotion with her employer, but she also paid off all of her debt and doubled her earned income. She graduated one year early on February 28, 2021 with a whopping $15k-check presented to her on May 27 - she plans to use it for part of a down payment on a house later this year.
We love to see the Family Self-Sufficiency Program work as it is meant to. In the future, we intend to keep this feed updated with our graduates’ successes. We hope that other Housing Choice Voucher participants will be inspired and empowered by our graduates and be motivated to follow in their footsteps.
Thank you for all of your hard work, Nadirah, and we wish you the best moving forward!
