Rogue Jakes
Cultivating the culture of aggressive firefighting, pride, passion, and learning. We are here for those who are like minded and know mediocrecy kills.
Looking at this fire from the front door some would assume there was very little chance of someone being alive in that apartment, but I can tell you the kitchen, living room and dining room (off to the right as you entered) had livable space. There was heat damage and smoke damage but if there was a victim that person would have been alive. Fight fire from the inside out, and put that line between and the fire.
Got this wedge over the 4 day, put it in service and got a this A.M.... didn’t have to use the wedge but I’m sure I will soon enough. The wedge hung on thru the search, no more worrying about loosing it, dropping it, or having to keep it tethered. Tomorrow some FE training. Great product
“With competence comes confidence”...... such an amazing quote!!! Change your depts culture with good competent firefighters. THEY deserve it!! Train and be ready you never know when it’s your turn to make a difference.
Firemanship conference dates have been released!!! Plan to go!!! You learn the most from the best!!
Bought this jem of a book for some good reading... may be old but has continued through the years to be relevant and full of amazing info... “Here is one of the most important books ever published for the fire service!” The philosophy, ideology, procedures and views expressed in the book are shared with some of the most aggressive, smart, passionate firemen in today’s and yesterday’s American Fire Service. This specific book was purchased online but the owner (after looking it up) was a Cambridge Fire Dept Deputy Chief (since retired) I don’t know him but feel connected to my East Coast brothers. Support and .
Happy St. Patrick’s Day everyone!!!! Enjoy the day, the traditions, and the brotherhood!!! Here's to a long life and a merry one.
A quick death and an easy one.
A pretty girl and an honest one.
A cold beer and another one!
Head over to to buy some coasters.... part of the profit will be to the best a firefighter could ask for.... Amazing deal for amazing work!!! #911
Self explanatory.... they are sponges and need to be treated as such. They will soak in all the good, the bad , and the ugly. Do the right thing, teach them right. I am big believer in “you are who gets you first”. Simple meaning: you will forever be like the ones who first teach you. Set the new generation up for success. Teach them the tradition, cultivate the eagerness, train and I mean really train, be excited as they are and be humble. They will learn your ways, they will emulate you. Your words matter as someone is always listening. Let your passion, your drive, and your knowledge drip with your sweat. That’s who they deserve to learn from.
If you had to bale out a window to save yourself, could you? Would you know how? How about your crew, or the crews around you? Studies have proven that you are your biggest assist when calling a mayday.... Learn to save yourself, make it muscle memory so if this becomes a reality you won't have to stop and think
Failure to recognize and deal with incompetence will ruin any fire dept. It will impede growth and create a culture of distrust. Distrust will lead to micromanaging and create a ceiling of performance. This leads to the inability to cultivate it's a circle and starts with allowing incompetence to poison your crew, your battalion or your dept. It's everyone's responsibility to not train to the lowest denominator but bring the lowest to a higher level. Save them, teach them, train them. It's our duty and responsibility to make sure no ghost comes back to say their training failed them.
Remember day 1? Hell, remember what it was like to want day 1? You swore if you got the chance to don those turnouts, to sport that shirt, and wear that badge you would be the best firefighter the world has ever seen. Well now you’re there, you have it!! You have it all, the gear, shirt, badge and most importantly the people’s trust. What are you doing with it? Are you honoring those who came before? Honoring your oath? Are you training everyday? Getting better, quicker? Cause you know THEY deserve it! THEY demand it!! Remember that desire, that want to be the best, the very BEST!! When you took that oath, with it you made a promise to those you serve. Keep it, honor it, cherish it. Few get it and congratulations you have had it bestowed on you. Take that feeling, the prideful feeling and let that oil burn inside of you everyday. Remember the young in the Dept look up to you.... they deserve the best to emulate. The world is full of jakes, be a good one!!
Rank doesn't make you a what makes you a leader is how you present yourself. Your ability to , to be humble, and to listen. Some of the best leaders are those who hold no rank. It's ok to lead from the bottom, to be in your craft. It's ok to have pride in your company, in your battalion and in your department. Sometimes a push in the right direction will get the boulder moving. Don't give up or change your ideology, teach all those who are willing to watch and listen. You never know who you will impact.
Teach the youth and the next generation what is to you. not the problem. Your pride, knowledge, advice and help will continue to be passed down for generations to come.
Push. Fight. Win.... be ready for the big one, the complex one, and the bread and butter one. Be ready to make that push, to fight for your life and others, then win... put that dragon to bed. "If you put the fire out and you won't have to jump out a window"..... be the teacher, the student and the inspiration. Push your crew, the crews around you and your whole department to be better, to do better and constantly strive to be the best.
Thoughts of the day....
Today and everydays mantra.... BE A WOLF BE A LION....This quote written by Ret. Capt Adams and Capt Eric Guida of the Sacramento Fire Dept in a great article found on the Orange Peel on the NorCal FOOLS website....
