Congratulations! Jeff Kreger

After a three-month national search, the board of trustees of Massillon Public Library announces that Jeff Kreger has been named the next director of the library.

Kreger currently serves as the Technology and Marketing Manager at the library, where he has been on staff since 2018. Prior to coming to MPL, Kreger had 12 years of experience at the Stark County District Library, beginning as an IT Technician and ultimately including positions as Branch Manager and Interim Community Libraries Director.

He holds a Bachelor of Science from Heidelberg University, and a Masters in User Experience Design from Kent State University, and is a graduate of Library Leadership Ohio. A lifelong Stark Countian, Kreger resides locally with his wife Sarah, and three daughters.

“Jeff will be a wonderful asset for the Library,” said Kristin Hannon, president of the Library board of directors. “He has extensive library experience, vision, a passion for the work, and a desire to continue the strong relationships that our community has come to expect.”

The Massillon Public Library is an independent library system with an historic main library in Massillon, branches in Navarre and Brewster, and a Bookmobile and other outreach services. It has served the community since 1899. As director, Kreger will be responsible for creating partnerships and relationships with the community. His duties include staff and operational management, strategic planning, and development.

“I am deeply honored to be selected as the next Director of the Massillon Public Library,” Kreger said. “As a lifelong resident of the area, this is honestly a dream come true. I hope to honor the rich legacy Sherie Brown has left the library while also embracing the exciting opportunities that lie ahead. I am confident that with the support and dedication of our incredible library staff, we will continue to enrich lives, inspire minds, and make a lasting impact on our community.”

He begins his new position on May 7.

The Library has been led by Sherie Brown since 2011. Brown is retiring after a career at MPL spanning 43 years.

“I want to pass along my sincere appreciation to all who have been so supportive over the years – the staff, board, and community,” said Brown. “You have helped the Library blossom into the vibrant organization it is today. I am humbled and honored to have served this amazing organization and will watch with excitement in the Library’s next phase with Jeff at the helm to create an even better place for people to learn and connect.”
