Happy Bat Appreciation Month!
October is Bat Appreciation Month!
Bats are beneficial to us all. They help to grow plants and forests by dispersing large amounts of seed and pollen. Bats help control insect populations as a natural pest control. A nursing female bat may consume almost her entire body weight in insects in one night!
A spooky fun fact is that a protein found in vampire bat saliva can be used to develop clot-busting medication to help stroke victims!
You can help bats by providing housing for them! Bat Conservation International and National Wildlife Federation both have great information, directions, and how-to videos to build your own bat houses: https://bit.ly/476yeb1 and https://bit.ly/40fLpWO

Four North Carolina megastars will be hosting a benefit concert in Bank of America Stadium later this month.
I told yβall I had something big planned for Carolina. One of the ways weβre helping is a benefit concert at Bank of America Stadium on Oct. 26th! This concert took so much planning, work, and coordination from so many people. Iβm so thankful to everyone who helped make this a possibility on such short notice. Tickets will go on sale this Thursday and 100% of all proceeds will be going directly to those who need it most.
For updates, details, and ways you can help, please visit concertforcarolina.com.

βοΈ We are in peak fall migration time! If you live in one of the major US flyways, definitely turn off lights at night (they can confuse the birds) and ask your employer to turn off lights after sunset, especially if you work in a large building.
π Most birds migrate under cover of darkness due to a number of factors. For smaller birds, migrating at night reduces their chances of encountering a predator. It also is cooler at night, and migrating is hard work, so the birds will not get overheated as quickly.
Can you imagine!!!
!MIGRATION ALERT! Tonight, BirdCast predicts that more than 500 MILLION birds will be migrating under the cover of darkness. Sadly, birds can be disoriented by light pollution, contributing to the hundreds of millions of birds estimated to die in building collisions in the U.S. every year. To help migrating birds, be sure to turn off nonessential lights from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly, and make glass safer. Just remember: Dim lights at night. Treat glass by day. Find out more at https://birdcast.info/science-to-action/lights-out/
