Earlier this month on October 5, Comfort House turned 35 years old. These photos are from an original program from the inauguration that was led by Bishop Fitzpatrick and founder, Sister M. Strohmeyer. Since our doors opened, we have been able to provide a place of love, comfort, care, and peace to over 3,000 patients. It is with the assistance of our surrounding cities and foundations that provide us with grants, donors from within our communities and from other states, and lots of prayer that we have been able to keep our doors open. We look forward to many more years of service and goodwill. Our home is your home and we always welcome visitors and volunteers. We must continue the fight! This morning over one thousand cyclists, runners, and walkers partook in the 12th Annual Texas Oncology Walk, Run, Ride. The rain did not stop a crowd of cancer fighters, survivors, community members, and local organizations cheering on the event and participants. We are thankful for many people that assist us in the Comfort House. We are very thankful for Rev. Monsignor Juan Nicolau PhD who has been coming by every Friday for many years to anoint the sick and pray for them and their families. Monsignor’s 87th birthday was yesterday and we are very thankful for all he has done for the Comfort House, our communities, and his mission here on earth. Monsignor, you make 87 look amazing! Many blessings and thank you for all that you do and continue to do!

We are very proud of our Comfort House staff. These are the individuals who provide twenty four hour palliative care to our residents. These are the caring hearts that give their all to ensure our residents are provided with a comfortable environment so that they may pass with dignity and in comfort. These are the individuals that listen to family members with an open heart as they face the grieving process. These are true angels on earth. Missing from the photo are Kassandra and Michael. We are extremely blessed to have such caring and loving individuals who play an integral role in the Comfort House. Thank you to each of these outstanding individuals.

Today Rev. Monsignor Juan Nicolau PhD spent the afternoon praying over our residents and with their families. One of Monsignor Nicolau’s devotions is to pray for healing and for the sick. He has been doing this for thousands of individuals the past 70 years. Thank you, Monsignor, for your prayers for those in the Comfort House and throughout our communities.
