For every five miles over the 65-mile-per-hour speed limit driven, fuel economy can decrease by seven percent. For example, if your vehicle averages 20 miles-per-gallon driving at 65 MPH, raising your speed up to 70 MPH will drop your miles per gallon average down to 18.5. The bottom line is to leave early, drive the speed limit, and keep your vehicle in the right-hand lane whenever possible.

They increase gas consumption, reduce mileage, are unsafe, and lead to earlier-than-normal tire replacement. (Checked the price of four new tires, lately?). Remember, tires are oil-based, too. Drive on the smoothest roads possible.
