Some of the teachers and assistants spent the beginning of the week attending the Texas Association Teachers of Dance summer conference.

They took, observed, and were inspired by classes from Jay Fagan, Nick Pupillo, Misty Rascon-Smith, Casie “Tynee” Goshow and Thayne Jasperson.

Thank you to all the wonderful students of Melba’s Dance who inspire our teachers to continue their dance education and bring back fresh ideas to our classes!

International tap sensation (and Melba's Girl!) Dre Torres is coming to Melba's Dance School to teach some special summer tap classes July 8-25! Check out this video to see her in action, then email her to register for one of the following:

Monday-Wednesday:
Level 1 (equivalent to Melba's Level 3): 3:30-5:00pm
Level 2 (equivalent to Melba's Level Incoming 4 & 5): 5:15-6:45pm
Level 3 (equivalent to Melba's Pre through Sr. Company): 7:00-9:00pm

Thursday:
Drop-in Open Class (Your dancer should come to this class if they can't come to the full intensive. It is for advanced beginner to intermediate skill levels. Ideal age 12 and up. Adults are very welcome!): 5:15-6:45pm

*3-Week Participant: $250
*1-Week Participant: $150

There are many theories of how tap dance began. Some believe it originated from a fusion of African tribal dances, Irish jigs, and English clog dancing. Others say that it arose in the 19th century when African slaves in the U.S. were deprived of their traditional drums and began using their feet for their musical percussion. Through the years, it's grown and been shaped into a popular dance genre, honed and polished by several generations of different cultures. It's a rhythmic celebration of cultural diversity and creativity!

Today, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the talented students and dedicated instructors of Melba’s Dance for their unwavering passion for this timeless art form. Keep tapping your hearts out! 🎶👯‍♂️

Melba's Dance is closed on Fridays from now through the end of summer. In May, we are open M-Th 12-7 and Sat 10-5. June through August, we will be open M-Th 10-5 and Sat 10-5. ⭐🎶🩰😍
