🚨 Calling for Volunteers for C.L.I.M.B. After School Program 2024/2025! 🚨
We’re excited to announce that C.L.I.M.B. is back for its second year, and we’ve made some exciting changes to better serve our students and volunteers! After a summer of reflection and planning, C.L.I.M.B. is combining efforts into ONE impactful day per week, ⏰ Thursdays from 3:00-5:00 PM ⏰starting September 5, 2024!
Last year, they witnessed so many "wins," from building strong relationships with students and their families to seeing kids grow in confidence and maturity. This year, volunteers are continuing that momentum with a renewed focus on providing a positive, supportive environment where every child can thrive.
What’s new this year?
One Day a Week: We’ll now meet on Thursdays only, allowing us to concentrate our resources and create a more manageable atmosphere for everyone.
Expanded Tutoring Time: Ms. DeeDee, a beloved retired teacher and community leader, will continue to provide tutoring at the end of each session.
Focused Learning Activities: Each week will feature activities in Music, Art, STEM, or social skills/physical health, led by specialists and supported by volunteers.
But to make this all happen, we need YOU ❤️ ! Whether you can commit to volunteering weekly or just occasionally, your presence makes a difference in the lives of these kids. If you’re not sure yet, consider this: Your time and energy could be the positive influence a child carries with them for a lifetime.
Here’s how to get involved:
1. Fill out an application (returning volunteers too!)
2. Complete a Background Check (if you’re new or yours has expired)
3. Attend a Volunteer Training: Choose from August 22 or August 29, 3-5 PM at Merritt Apartments. (Optional for snack providers)
Kickoff is on Thursday, September 5th—let’s make this year even better than the last! Ready to sign up? 👉 [VOLUNTEER HERE](https://www.climbmckinney.com/properties)

🎉🚗 Celebrating Community Generosity! 🚗🎉
Today, we are thrilled to share a heartwarming story of community support and collaboration! Thanks to the incredible generosity of Cheryl Lawson, who donated a Honda Pilot to our One Heart McKinney Car Donation Program, the Sandra Rushing family now has a vehicle!
Through the amazing partnership between Grand Love and One Heart McKinney, we were able to assist a grandmother raising her grandchildren by providing her with reliable transportation. Grand Love has also committed to covering six months of car insurance for the family.
Sandra Rushing, the recipient, shared her gratitude: "This means so much to me. It's been a long time coming. I am so grateful and thankful. I just thank God for helping me."
"We are excited for the family! We know that this will make a significant difference for them," said Cheneda Samuel of One Heart McKinney. "We are excited about our collaboration with Grand Love Texas to make this happen. We are thrilled that the donor thought of us to make this donation."
Since 2019 Grand Love has helped grandparents all over the state of Texas, providing food, utility assistance, holiday assistance, and much more. "What a blessed day! I am so thankful to be part of this wonderful opportunity to show God's goodness," said Rita Merino of Grand Love.
Thank you to everyone who made this possible, especially our generous donor, Cheryl Lawson. Let's continue to spread kindness and support our community together! 💙
This is an incredible example of working together in a time of crisis.

🌟 Celebrating Extraordinary Women in Collin County! 🌟
The McKinney Chamber of Commerce Inclusion Council recently spotlighted some of the most inspiring women in Collin County, honoring their invaluable contributions to the nonprofit world.
"Women in Non-Profit: Making an Impact in North Texas" was hosted by Independent Financial on Thursday, May 9, and featured an inspiring guest panel, including our own Cheneda Samuel, Director of Navigation for One Heart McKinney. ❤️
Cheneda shared that the key to philanthropy is 3 things: Voice, Time, and Money. "No one will know about your passion unless you voice the cause, spend time researching the need, and then seek funding," she said. "I love what I do. I love helping people to get to a resolution. If it just a listening ear or providing a solution, I want to be able to do that with compassion and care. Helping others it part of our purpose of life."
Other women on the panel:
• Lexie Okeke, Salesmanship Club
• Maylee Thomas, Love Life Foundation
• Allison Monroe, Volunteer McKinney
The panel, led by Lauren Smith, Executive Director at Hugs Cafe, Inc., and MIC Advisory Board Member, brought a wealth of experience and unique perspectives, offering deep insights into the evolving role of women in philanthropy. The evening included opportunities for mingling and networking, fostering connections among community members dedicated to making a positive impact.
Let's celebrate these remarkable women and their contributions to creating a better world for all! 💪💖

We are fortunate to have a community-connected McKinney Fire Department.
There is nothing a community can't solve by working TOGETHER with ONE HEART. One of our valuable church partners, Christ Fellowship, mobilized its members to meet the needs of four wonderful organizations in our city: Direction 61:3, Shiloh Place, McKinney Little Free Pantry and Hope Women's Center. On one recent Sunday, three U-Haul trucks, at least six SUVS/pickups and a large trailer were loaded to the brim. One of the nonprofits said this would meet their needs for an entire year. One of the nonprofits said it would help for about a month or so! To all of you who went out and shopped to fill their "needs" lists, and came and donated, thank you for helping. If you missed it, you can still head to cfhome.org/serveday to download the lists and either shop online, or drop supplies off directly to these organizations.
