I had a full room in July, so I put a few more dates in the calendar! I have attached a flyer with more information, but here it is in a nutshell:

Deep Dive into a Full Evaluation Report
Changes in the law require dyslexia therapists to contribute to full evaluations and the identification of dyslexia. Do you feel unprepared or ill-equipped to take on this role? Are you in a private school or private practice and feel lost when you read a psychological evaluation? R.E.A.D. Evaluation and Dyslexia Center is offering a deep dive into a Full and Individual Evaluation (FIE) report. Participants will acquire a deeper understanding of:
The components of a comprehensive psychological evaluation report
Intellectual / Cognitive Abilities (the Gs)
The Bell Curve - Understanding Scores
Specific Learning Disability versus General Learning Difficulty

In-person training will be held Aug. 31 from 9:00-12:00 and again Sept. 28 at Caddo Office Reimagined, 550 S Watters Rd, Allen, TX 75013. A virtual option is available on Sept. 14 from 9:00-12:00. It was a crazy long week, but I have been more than honored to contribute to Wapakoneta City Schools’ efforts to implement Ohio’s Dyslexia Guidebook! The leadership is truly invested in making literacy a priority and doing what is right for kids! They are ready to ROCK the 2024-2025 school year!♥️🖤

I've been busy conducting testing training up north over the last few years where the dyslexia laws are quite different! One of the most recent workshops I did was to help teachers gain a deeper understanding of the components of an evaluation report. My current group of trainees asked me to plan one here...so here I go! I have attached a flyer with more information, but here it is in a nutshell:

Why writing by hand beats typing for thinking and learning Researchers are learning that handwriting engages the brain in ways typing can't match, raising questions about the costs of ditching this age-old practice, especially for kids.

Early identification. Proper remediation. We need to end the " wait and see" model where we tell parents the child is a " late bloomer" or will " catch up later." The " wait and see" leads to the " wait to fail" which is outdated. The “wait-to-fail” is often part of the “ fail-to-teach” literacy model.

Evaluate. Remediate. Accommodate. Educate. Advocate. Congratulate. Feel great. Validate. Graduate. Don’t wait. Don’t hesitate.

It has been another whirlwind trip ✈️ to Chicago! I am truly grateful for the opportunity I had to present to the ALTA Illinois Chapter on the assessment and identification of dyslexia.
I LOVE empowering educators and parents with a deeper understanding of the most common (and under-identified) learning disability. ❤️❤️

To say I am impressed with the Ohio State Department of Education is an understatement! The new Ohio Dyslexia Guidebook is IMPRESSIVE!

Just spent the day in Wapakoneta, Ohio training a group of school psychologists, SLPs, dyslexia therapists, interventionists, and campus/district administrators from 10 surrounding districts prepare for the implementation of new regulations. I pray they walked away from a long day of me talking (and perhaps even a cartwheel to keep them awake😳) feeling more knowledgeable and empowered when it comes to the identification of dyslexia. Thank you, Kassie Hill, for having me out and extending the invitation to others. I love that you are deeply invested in your staff and focused on equipping them for what lies ahead! Students in Wapakoneta City Schools (and surrounding schools) are truly blessed by your leadership!

Exhausted….YES! Fulfilled…BIG YES! ❤️

A few years considering it…
A few months being encouraged…
One phone call to actually commit…
Less than two months to plan…
MANY late nights pulling it all together…
A whirlwind of a weekend in Chicago teaching three full days on assessing for dyslexia…
DONE!

I am in awe of the way God continues to pave a path that felt like just pipe dream a few years ago. Tara Chapman, I can’t thank you enough for your constant encouragement and persistent push to get me out of my comfort zone. If it weren’t for you, I would still be “just considering” it. I pray that every minute I spent, slide I prepared, and word I spoke makes a difference in the lives of children struggling to read!

** This a just a few of the amazing women I trained…and four states represented here! These are the only pictures I got from the weekend but definitely one of the highlights!
