Known as the founder of modern nursing, Florence Nightingale is perhaps the most famous nurse in history.
During the height of the Crimean War in 1854, Florence, along with 30 other nurses provided life-saving medical care to hundreds of wounded British soldiers. Before her arrival, conditions and care at the base camp were horrid, with many soldiers dying of infection versus battle wounds.
Florence worked quickly, cleaning the facilities from top to bottom, establishing a laundry service so patients could have clean linens, and even purchasing medical supplies with her own money. Nightingale herself spent most of her waking hours tending to wounded patients. This extended late into the evenings, earning her the nickname “the Lady with the Lamp.” Her work helped reduce the mortality rate to just 2%. Nurses have been awesome from the very start!
Nurses Week is finally here! Our nurses are critical in providing compassionate and high-quality care for our patients and residents. Many of them are even considered “family” to our patients.
This Nurses Week we want to thank our extraordinary nurses for their continued passion and dedication. Their tireless work impacts the lives of every patient they touch!
