Semaglutide
What is it?
-Semaglutide is a Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1 RA). The GLP-1 hormone is produced by the body in response to food ingestion. GLP-1 is then circulated throughout the body and connects with receptors in different organs that have a direct affect on weight management including the pancreas, intestines, and liver. Semaglutide binds to these receptors and acts like the GLP-1 hormone in our body. Therefore, Semaglutide increases insulin secretion from the pancreas, decreases gastric motility in the stomach to make us feel fuller longer and decreases appetite. It also inhibits the liver from making and secreting glucagon.
It is an injectable medication already approved by the FDA for weight loss and is also known as its brand name Wegovy. This medication along with diet and exercise increases the amount of weight lost, rather than just diet and exercise alone.

Please welcome Sarah Hensley to our team at Sandknop Health Group. Sarah is a board-certified Family and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and holds a Master of Science degree in Nursing plus a Post-Master’s degree. Sarah started her journey at Collin College where she received her Associates Degree in Nursing. She then obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing at Texas Tech while working at a local hospital. She went on to achieve her Master of Science in Nursing and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner degree from the University of Cincinnati. After getting two years of experience, she then went back to complete a Post-Master’s Family Nurse Practitioner program. She is now duel certified and licensed as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and Family Nurse Practitioner. She is thrilled to be able to serve the community of Rockwall and surrounding areas.

Sarah is married to her husband Aaron and they have 3 children: Hannah, Gavin, and Noah. They also have 2 fur babies, Sophia a Chihuahua and Duke a Great Dane mix. Sarah and Aaron are Texans born and raised and now reside in Josephine. Outside of work, Sarah enjoys being outside, lifting weights, reading, and playing with her children and pets.
