Jason is Curt’s godfather. Curt’s dad, Clifton Fendley, and Jason have been best friends for almost 40 years.

Growing up, Curt was surrounded by community leaders in his family, which inspired his passion for helping others. He has always aspired to be an attorney and has worked diligently in leadership, community service, and academics to make that dream a reality. Regarding community service, Curt has been very active in Paris with many service organizations, including years volunteer work with The Boys & Girls Club of Paris.

Our Friends of the Firm Scholarship Recipient for Fall 2024 in the amount of $1,000 is awarded to Charlotte Hamann!

Charlotte is a ManeGait volunteer and has volunteered in support of our annual Burress Injury Law Family Picnic!

She has worked with over 130 children with disabilities through school programs and as a volunteer, which shaped her passion for serving others. This fall, she will be studying Kinesiology and Neuroscience at Texas A&M, aiming for a Doctorate in Occupational Therapy!

Another win for the good guys! Client Emma Pullido was involved in an automobile crash. As a result, she sustained multiple non-displaced fractures in her left hand. Initially, the insurance carrier for the responsible party refused to accept full responsibility and made no bodily injury settlement offer. In swoops Burress Injury Law! Bart Smith and Noemi Peralta not only persuaded the insurance carrier to accept 100% responsibility, but were able to obtain a total settlement that was approximately 5x greater than Emma’s medical bills. We are thrilled with this outcome for Emma and wish her the best down the road!

Our Friends of the Firm Scholarship Recipient for Fall 2024 in the amount of $1,000 is awarded to Rose Duncan! This is Rose’s second scholarship from our firm, awarded to recipients who achieve the Dean’s List for the semester after becoming a scholarship recipient.

Rose is the daughter of Matt Duncan, who served as Burress Injury Law’s original banker from 2008 to 2012. Matt continues to support the firm in his role as Executive Vice President at Independent Financial.

Rose, a long-time friend of the firm, often joins her father and Jason at SMU Football games. She is a graduate of Trinity Christian Academy and is now a sophomore at SMU. In addition to her academic pursuits, Rose is also an exceptionally talented artist!

In March 2024, Britni sustained a severe ankle injury in a car crash in Wise County. Thanks to the diligent efforts of Bart Smith and Trisha Miller, Burress Injury Law secured maximum compensation from both the at-fault party’s insurance and Britni’s own coverage—achieving full policy limits without the need for a lawsuit. This is a significant victory not only for our firm but, most importantly, for Britni herself.

The gross medical expenses of approximately $400,000 were reduced down to $18,000.

Our Third Burress Injury Law Underdog Scholarship for Fall 2024 for $2,500 is awarded to Rosa Davi!

Rosa’s ability to keep going despite losing her father is inspiring. With her mother’s advice to “Be the light in someone’s darkness,” Rosa is now using her own experiences to help and uplift others. We’re rooting for you, Rosa!

Addison followed her Grandfather’s example by turning challenges into opportunities to help others. Despite dealing with a serious kidney condition, Addison raised significant funds for Special Olympics and worked to make school more inclusive for everyone.

This fall, Addison will be attending University of Michigan!

Another successful outcome for Burress Injury Law and its client. Rebecca, who is an Arlington Police Officer, was bitten by a dog on her dominant hand. After months of litigation and lengthy negotiations, Burress Law came out on top at Mediation. A wonderful result for a GREAT client!

Because of the sheer size of these vehicles, death or serious injury often occurs when they collide with passenger vehicles. Approximately 5,000 big truck wrecks result in fatalities each year. The great majority of these deaths happen to occupants of the smaller passenger vehicles, not the drivers of the 18-wheelers.

Head-on collisions are the most dangerous, with a significantly increased chance of fatality. These crashes often take place at high speeds, and most notably, the vehicles are proceeding in opposite directions, which greatly increases the forces involved. Drivers and passengers may suffer severe injuries, including traumatic brain injuries (TBI), even with the protection of vehicle safety systems such as seat belts and airbags. To lessen your chances of being involved in a head-on collision,
1. Be aware of your surroundings
2. Remain free from distractions while driving such as cell phones, children and eating
3. On a 2-lane road, make sure your left tires are to the right of the center line.
4. Reduce your speed

Did you know…a driver who strikes another vehicle in the rear will usually be found responsible for causing the collision. Texas Transportation Code §545.062 requires a vehicle operator to maintain an assured clear distance from vehicles ahead so that, considering the speed of the vehicles, traffic, and the conditions of the highway, the operator can safely stop without striking vehicles in front of the operator.
