Love this quote. Donations are still welcome 💙
A powerful quote from one of Chris’s essays! It is so important that we presume competence - even when there aren’t ‘typical’ signs that someone is understanding.
We are up to 95% for Chris’ fundraiser - thank you to the recent donations that are getting us closer to the goal! If you would still like to make a donation, here is the link:

When do you know if a student is ready to move to flat on the table spelling? If a student has 1)emotional readiness 2) motor readiness 3) sensory readiness.
This student requested to practice some independent spelling skills ➡️Emotional readiness
He is able to answer in paragraphs, can write stories, and doesn’t need much prompting other than to “keep going” ➡️Motor readiness
He is able to sit at the table with good posture, and his affect remains neutral. He’s able to tolerate the new skill without getting anxious ➡️Sensory readiness

Inspired by Soma’s recent Workshop on Developing Purposeful Kinesthetic Skills. In this lesson, we used an activity board to discuss navigating a map. We created characters Billy and Sarah who needed to get to work, go to the grocery store, etc. Then we manipulated the paper models to act out the story. A very engaging lesson for this kinesthetic student 😉

Have you heard about Unlocking Voices on Facebook? This is one of the first resources I mention to my clients learning RPM. Highly recommend checking out the wealth of information here. Lots of collaboration between RPM parents, professionals, and even the creator of RPM, Soma herself! You can also find some excellent video tutorials from parent Sue Finnes and provider Alex Hopwood.
Did you know Rapid Prompting Method has been in DFW for 10 years? We have trained Level 3 and Level 2 RPM Providers here to help you teach your child age appropriate academics and meaningful communication.

Since April is Autism month, we wanted to do a something helpful for our families! We’re offering a 𝐅𝐑𝐄𝐄 RPM informational session for parents, professionals, and caregivers.
This event actually takes place the first week in May, so that more people have a chance to sign up! Our goal is to spread the word about this amazing teaching method that has helped so many families.

During a student’s very first RPM session, parents are eager to see their child’s world open up, their voice finally revealed…and then…things don’t always go according to plan. Sometimes students get anxious, sometimes they try to elope, sometimes they have melt downs. While we are always cautious of overwhelming a student’s sensory system, students will often go through a “desensitizing stage” where they must learn to encode and regulate themselves during a session. Many students experience a sort of sensory shock during their first session, which may present in a variety of ways.
This isn’t to discourage you from trying RPM, but to encourage you to keep going! The first few sessions may look a little chaotic, but part of our jobs as teachers and parents is to work with a student during the desensitization stage and keep practicing even through those challenges.
𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧’𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐲…and let’s be honest, sometimes the many sessions that follow after that aren’t easier either. But RPM takes hard work and practice. Keep going and connect with an RPM Provider or other RPM parents to keep you motivated. The hard work will pay off!
