Dear SMW Client,
I hope this message finds you well and that you and your family are enjoying the summer!
I wanted to reach out personally to share an update on my recovery and the future of Stone Massage & Wellness.
First and foremost, I want to express how much I miss each and every one of you. The past three months have been incredibly difficult for me, not only because of my injury but also because I’ve been cut off from being a massage therapist—a huge part of my life and my relationship with you. Your thoughts and prayers have meant the world to me, and I am deeply grateful for your continued support. As many of you know, on April 12, I was severely injured when a horse bit me in the throat, crushing my larynx. Since then, I’ve undergone reconstructive surgery and intensive care. By outward appearance, it may seem that I am fully healed. I have 100% function of my restructured voice box, 100% breathing capacity, and the ability to speak. I am immensely thankful for the miracle I have been given.
However, the challenges I am facing are not visible from the outside unless you are part of my inner circle. I am still dealing with PTSD symptoms and a constant choking sensation, which may require additional procedures. I am continuing speech therapy and working with a therapist to support me through these challenges. I also undergo CAT scans every three months to ensure the placement of the plate and six screws remains intact. At this time, I am not certain about returning as a massage therapist. This has been a hard reality for me to face, as my role as a therapist has been a source of immense joy and purpose. As many of you know, my passion for empowering people to self-regulate their nervous systems with love and my work over the past three years toward mindfulness and wellness retreats with horses have been significant parts of my journey. I am committed to using the lessons learned from this traumatic experience to inspire and help others in new ways. Although I am not yet sure what that looks like,.. cont. in comments …
Massage is a vital but often overlooked part of the athletic experience. For the athlete, properly administered massage therapy will improve performance, reduce the recovery time between games, can reduce the instance and severity of injury, and help speed recovery from injury.

When I’m not working the day job, I volunteer with my local Community Emergency Response Team here in TX. All that to say, I definitely need bodywork to get centered and stay healthy. Over a total of only three sessions, Shelley’s techniques and style have connected with my pain. She finds my tension and imbalances. Then works thoughtfully into and out of each area. I’ve received many massages across the country along my travels. I can confidently say, Shelley is one of the best.”
Dear Friends and Clients,
I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to personally reach out to inform you of an unfortunate incident that occurred recently.
On April 12, I was severely injured when a horse bit me in the throat and crushed my larynx. I underwent reconstructive surgery on my voice box and spent 10 days in the hospital, 8 of them in the Trauma Level 1 ICU at Texas Health Hospital in Fort Worth, with 6 of those days on a ventilator.
The outcome is miraculous; the doctors are amazed and have no explanation for why I can speak. One of my doctors said the only thing he can say is to "Thank God!" There is no doubt in my mind about the miracle that I am living right now and the gift that God has so graciously given me. I am immensely thankful to God for allowing me to keep my voice and for all the prayers, love, and support that has surrounded me and my family during this time.
Philippians 1:6 - being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
I believe I still have my voice for a reason, and I am committed to using the lessons learned and the good that has come out of this experience for my own growth, and ultimately, to inspire others.
All of my clients who have been to me for the past three years know that I have been working towards a calling that burns in the deepest part of my soul: to facilitate/host mindfulness and wellness retreats. To help people feel love and support while providing a safe place to connect, be inspired, and be nurtured. I'm not exactly sure how my future is going to play out, but my heart and mind are wide open to whatever God has in mind for me.
This experience has made me prioritize my physical and mental health like never before. This will involve breathing treatments, and various medical tests to monitor my progress.
Consequently, I’ll need to take some time off from work.
In the meantime, I am thrilled to introduce you to another outstanding Massage Therapist, Brittney Witt. Brittney brings a wealth of experience and healing expertise to our team.
