Here we are again, the Iowa high school shooting was an act of domestic terrorism. And it is because we have a huge issue with mental health, the inability to access mental healthcare, and unprecedented ease by which we can buy fi****ms.

But instead of focusing on those real problems, conservatives would attack a marginalized community and baselessly blame these incidents on trans and non-binary people.

This is classic deflection. Let’s not focus on the real hard problems, let’s focus on a group of people who are easy to blame, and by blaming them politicians don’t have to solve real problems.

Republican Gov Mike DeWitt has vetoed an anti-trans bill. In his decision he stated:⁣

“Ultimately, these tough, tough decisions should not be made by the government. They should not be made by the state of Ohio,” as reported by ABC News.⁣

This is a great win for all q***r and trans people who struggle to be accepted in public spaces. ⁣

Good news coming out of Florida, I hate fall ban on gender affirming care for trans youth has been halted by federal courts. Leave medicine to doctors, not politicians.

A definite win for LGBTQ folx across the country. Judge Parker, a Trump appointed federal judge, ruled that this law was unnecessarily broad and vague. And that it would squash the performer’s right to free speech. *x ***r ***r *xawareness *xathlete ***rathlete ***rgender ***risnormal

There’s nothing funny about this. The idea that this man wants to use any vulnerable population to stoke rage and win an election is appalling. The threat here is very real and is occurring already. States and lawmakers across the country, even here in New England, want ban transgender people from being able to get treatment. ⁣

If you are the type of person who would vote for this man, or anyone that runs on a platform of hate, or would easily dismiss this kind of rhetoric because they do other “good things,” please ask yourself what gives you the right to metal in other peoples lives.

The Stoughton school system has recently implemented a new ban on “political flags.” Not just Biden and Trump flags, but also Black Lives Matter and pride flags. The new policy was implemented to remove disruptions from the classroom. ⁣

A group of students protested and one got suspended. ⁣
⁣
This school is not in a bubble. In this country there is a droning rhetoric going on that the LGBTQIA community is a corrupt movement that is “grooming and s*xualizing” children. There are laws that are on the books, and being an acted to remove LGBTQ people from the discussion in schools. ⁣
⁣
Politicians aim to create laws banning discussion in schools about how minority groups are affected by the laws enacted by white majority government. They move to ban discussion of gender and s*xuality in schools, ban access to healthcare for LGBTQIA+ people, and thereby negate our rights as human beings and citizens of this country. Politicians make our lives political! ⁣

The Pride flag represents the love of everyone in this community, those who know what they are, as well as those who are confused, or scared. The pride flag is a love for everyone, and to ban it in public or in schools erases those in our community who are already not seen, and who are already feeling the effects of laws against they are very existence.⁣

A new bill introduced into Oklahoma’s senate, would make gender transition illegal for those under the age of 26. And would force some over the age of 18, which is legal age to de transition until 26. ⁣
⁣
It has never been about protecting children, it has been about the outright hatred of transgender and non-binary people. ⁣
⁣
When lawmakers attack the rights of children, they say it’s because they’re kids and they can’t legally consent. Now the government wants to control adults. ⁣
⁣
Minors do not get surgery, the most they get is hormones/blockers. Meaning hormones are reversible. Surgery doesn’t happen until the age of consent which is 18.⁣
⁣
We don’t want government controlling our lives, except for trans, and non-binary people? Either keep the government out of everyone’s lives, or have senators tell you what you can and cannot do to your own body. It can’t be both. ⁣

Yesterday was inters*x awareness day. There is a previous post explaining what that day is all about.⁣

Inters*x surgeries do still occur in the US on infants who display ambiguous genitalia. These procedures may involve removing the p***s or cl****is surgically, along with recommendations to raise the child as a particular gender—sometimes never revealing to the child about the surgeries that were done to them. Numerous studies over the years of such methods have led to the AMA to reject inters*x surgeries as necessary in all cases. ⁣
⁣
Current anti-transgender bills that makes the practice of transgender surgery on minors illegal does still allow for unnecessary surgeries on inters*x children. Meaning a person that may be 16 years of age would not be allowed to consensually change their s*x. However, a child of less than a month old can be surgically altered without consent. ⁣
⁣
At this point you may be wondering how this can be allowed. This relates to the larger culture war on gender and s*x in this country. ⁣
⁣
Inters*x babies are often seen as needing to be fixed, that a baby must be either male or female to be considered truly human and prosperous. Similarly transgender folks who are male or female, and want to become the opposite are treated as inhuman because their desire to become a different s*x is seen as being abnormal.⁣
⁣
Advocates of anti-trans legislation always talk about protecting the children. If protecting children is the goal, then inters*x surgeries would be banned and gender affirming care granted for all. ⁣
⁣
The gender culture war centers on the heteronormative idea that male and female, man and woman, are the only ways that humans can exist — because that combination leads to procreation and continuation of our species. ⁣
⁣

A while back, someone was trying to convince me that inters*x was not a third s*x. That humans were either male or female, and nothing more. ⁣
⁣
Human s*x is defined by as a mix of chromosomes, internal and external genitalia, and hormones. Within the human population those of us who do not fit neatly into male or female categories, are referred to as Inters*x. We represent about 1.7% of the population on average. For context that is 119,000 people in MA, 257,000 in New England, and 5.7 million in the US. ⁣
⁣
From a strictly chromosomal point of view, males have an XY pairing and females have an XX pairing. The mosaic that exists between can include: X; # # ; # # ; XXY; XYY; XXYY. These people may have variations in their genitalia and hormones. And there are some inters*x people that have external genitalia, and were assigned at birth as male or female, but have the chromosomal pairing of the opposite s*x.⁣
⁣
Inters*x people have always existed. It is part of human biology that variations will occur. Giving a name to these variations, allows us to acknowledge that differences in humans are real and see these people as people rather than an anomaly. ⁣
