What’s New at A Wild Bird Oasis?

We’re excited to announce a fresh addition to our store! We’ve partnered with The Grazing Goat LLC, a local business right in Tabernacle, to bring you their beautiful handmade soaps. This marks the beginning of our journey to feature more locally crafted and made-in-USA products in the store.

What more could one ask for than a perfect weather day and a great blue heron sighting. Just a little change of scenery for this Friday the 13th!

With fall approaching, now is about the time we start to talk about when we should take down our hummingbird feeders. Most of our tiny, winged friends start migrating by mid-September, but it’s a good idea to keep your feeders up until late September or even early October!

Some hummingbirds may linger or pass through later than expected, and they’ll appreciate the extra energy for their long journey south. So, keep those feeders filled for at least two weeks after your last sighting to give them a helping hand!

Have you spotted any late-season hummers? Let us know in the comments!

09/09/2024

Have you seen our new bird viewing station yet? There are small changes happening in the store, but we’ll be keeping the same products that make us an “Oasis”! 🙂

We are stocked are ready to see you today!

Put out an orange to attract an oriole... ended up with a squad of hummingbirds instead! Guess word got out about my juice bar, but the VIP I was hoping for never showed. Anyone else serving snacks to the wrong guests?

Recently fledged chicks and adult hummers are now all fattening up for the long journey south. Now's the time to put out another feeder. If possible, place them far enough apart and not in eye sight with other feeders. This will help more of them feed.

The market is always a strong indicator of activity. For weeks we've been hearing about the absence of goldfinch and hummingbirds. Today more Finch Favorite, hummingbird feeders, and nectar mix flew out the door than the last 3 weeks combined. The chicks have fledged and they're hungry. Activity for the hummers is lower than last year but that can happen sometimes.

Pardon the shock post but this is worth sharing. More and more well intention people are using glue traps to combat the spotted lantern fly. Add these things to the DO NOT list. That list includes greasing poles to stop squirrels, red dyed nectar to attract hummingbirds, insecticide used near any feeder and bird bath, and poison to kill any rodent. Always consider the law of unintended consequences.

Our two pole systems in use at home. Hoppers, trays, cages, and suet feeders cover them all out here in Tabernacle. The cage feeders give the little guys a chance and the upsidedown suet feeders keeps the grackles and Jays under control. Everybody loves the old fashion hooper feeders up top. Hands down the most popular feeder for the birds are the tray feeders. They require more attention from us but we think it's worth it.

MUST LOVE BIRDS, and at least like people. A Wild Bird Oasis is for sale! Linda and Hank are ready to retire and move on to the next phase of their lives. The physical aspect of running the business and the time required is a job for a younger person with a fresh vision.

The evolving nature of retail needs a young approach and more experience with new technologies. This store opened in 2003. The website and domain have also been long established and continuously online. As an older domain, awildbirdoasis.com has a big SEO advantage that's crucial for website exposure and E-commerce marketing.

A Wild Bird Oasis is more than a store. Over the years it's become a local attraction. The high regard customers have for this business is more than just about the high quality products and service after the sale. Retail is a challenging business on any level but you know the environment is right when people enjoy coming to the store to talk, ask questions, browse what's new, or watch the birds on the feeders hanging outside the windows.

Please know that the new owner will need good credit for vendors to grant the standard 30 day payment terms. Hank or Linda are ready to start the conversation with interested parties. We are in no big hurry but if the new owner wants to step up, we're ready to begin the passing of the torch.

The general rule in this region says April 15th "tax day" is when you put out your hummingbird feeders. With sightings starting to happen in the area, we can't wait any longer. Feeder #1 2024 is now open for business.

03/08/2024

Spring is still 12 days away and hummingbirds won't be here for at least another month, but who cares? We couldn't wait to put the HummZinger shelves back up for the season. There's a reason why they're up front by door. It's because they are the best. Easy to clean, ant & bee resistant, and the hummers love them.
