It’s National Check The Chip Day — a day to check on your pets' microchips and make sure they're working and up to date. Microchips greatly increase the chances that pets will be reunited with their families if they are lost or stolen… but a microchip only works if its registration information is accurate. So when you visit your favorite veterinarian ask them to “Check the Chip”. And if you have moved or have a new phone number, remember to contact your chip registry and update your info.
Do you have pets who don’t have microchips? Your veterinarian can help you chip and register your pets. Lost dogs and cats who have been microchipped are much more likely to be returned to their owners. All of the dogs and cats adopted at SoHumane have been microchipped. Saving lives since 1928. www.sohumane.org

I do enjoy a comfy spot on a bed or couch rather than a kennel. I adore people and children and would prefer to be the only dog in the home. Marty loves hanging out with other small dogs, and he's a total people magnet—every person he meets becomes his new best friend. Does this sound like the pup for you? Meet Marty at the SoHumane Adoption Center in Medford! www.sohumane.org/dogs
Meet Marty!
This little guy may not have a DeLorean, but at 10 years old, he's got plenty of miles under his paws!
Marty is a super adorable small breed mix who’s all about living in the present. He doesn't need 1.21 gigawatts to power his day, just a few belly rubs and a comfy spot in your heart.
Marty loves hanging out with other small dogs, and he's a total people magnet—every person he meets becomes his new best friend! He's crate-trained, so you can bet he’ll chill in his cozy spot while you’re away.
And when it’s time for an adventure, Marty’s always ready to hop in the car and hit the road.
Senior dogs like Marty are proof that age is just a number—they’ve got wisdom, charm, and a lifetime of love to give.
So if you're looking for a loyal companion who’s already mastered the art of friendship, look no further.
Let’s take a page out of Back to the Future and make Marty's next chapter his best one yet!
If you have room in your home and in your heart, please consider adoption.
Thanks, and please share this post so that we can keep finding homes for ALL the fur-babies.

Our Story
SoHumane is a registered not-for-profit organization dedicated to the humane treatment of companion animals in Medford, Oregon, and beyond. Mae Richardson founded the Humane Society of Jackson County in 1928 as an all-volunteer organization that initially provided services for displaced dogs and horses.
Today, SoHumane, a no-kill shelter, provides quality care for dogs and cats while working to make a difference in the pet overpopulation problem. Annually, SoHumane serves 1,400 companion animals on average. In 2018, we successfully adopted out 1,548 animals, spayed or neutered over 700 animals, and saved over 800 animals from euthanasia at other shelters through the “Saving Train” program.
Our strategic areas of focus are to provide shelter and adoption services for displaced pets while reducing pet overpopulation through spay/neutering. SoHumane provides humane education opportunities for people of all ages throughout the community. Additionally, we currently educate more than 1,000 children in our local schools each year via programs that foster compassion for all living things.
Saving Train: SoHumane rescues animals from shelters where they have already been marked for death. These are healthy, adoptable animals who have been overlooked and have run out of time at overcrowded public facilities.
Senior Pets: We know that senior animals (those seven years of age and older) are among the first to be euthanized in many shelters that have an abundant supply of young energetic pets. We believe every animal — no matter their age — deserves a second chance.
Medical Needs: By addressing treatable medical conditions, we remove one of the biggest barriers to adoption and increase the number of animals who find new homes.
