I asked the girls if they would want to go to work with me on Wednesday, and both of them immediately said yes. In typical form Portia was up and at ’em by 6 am, sporting her Dynamic t-shirt ready to go. She got Penelope moving and we were off to the races with a stop at Ferrara’s first. Portia got a pork roll egg and cheese, and Penelope got a bagel. Both had an OJ to wash it down. We arrived at the shop where they answered phones, filed papers, did some cleaning, got the mail, tortured the employees, and then hopped back in the truck with me to hit a couple of jobsites and the bank.

You always hear adults saying things like “kids these days … “ etc etc etc. I vowed that when I became a parent I would teach my kids old school values in the same manner that my parents taught me. When we got to the bank yesterday there was an elderly woman using a walker to get upto the door. Without me even saying a word they both ran to the door and opened it for her. They worked all day and didn’t complain once or ask to go home.

If there’s one thing we have control over it’s the legacy that we leave our children. My goal is for them to be kind, and have a great work ethic. Sure I want them to accomplish more, but kindness and a great work ethic are two traits that will reward them both emotionally and financially for the rest of their lives.

I do get some heat from time to time because I’m always posting about The Hud … I can assure you this … when it’s his time to come to work with daddy he’ll be pushing a broom around the warehouse or pulling weeds in the parking lot … no free rides here. The same way my parents taught me.

I am not sure why it has taken us this long to post these, but this was one of the coolest first floor remodels that we have had the pleasure of working on. Nothing about this project was ordinary. All of the finishes are all top of the line and the workmanship is too. Our homeowners had such an awesome vision for the space, and we couldn’t be more proud that they chose us to help them bring it to life. Devon, the lead carpenter on this project really knocked it out of the park!

We used color Jacobean with Mega water based polyurethane for a durable finish that will stand the test of time.
