The Asian Lady Beetle (Harmonia Axyridis) is one of the most variable species in the world. It has an exceptionally wide range of color forms. The Asian lady beetles can be a nuisance when they occur in large numbers inside homes, but will not reproduce inside. Some can bite hard enough to break human skin. The bites can happen when the beetles are searching for moisture or food. When they run out of food source, these lady beetles fly to another food source, often fall-ripening fruit.
So, why are we seeing them now? Mild, sunny winter days can wake these dormant insects. Then they follow the warmth into your home and move towards windows and other sunny areas.
